Right. Ive hung a fair few bits of wall paper since buying my house and in my mum and dads so have hung your bog standard lining paper, patternerd blown vinyl and floral patterened wallpaper. All of which were simple enough to identify the pattern repeat (plus it says on the roll).

I've just bought some paper for our bedroom from next and on each roll it says the pattern repeat is 53cm. Now its a geometric pattern as below and I cannot for the life of me see how the repeat on the pattern is 53cm.

It can't be much more than a few cm from looking at it. Am I missing something blindingly obvious with this or is their reported pattern repeat incorrect?

I might be getting the wrong end of the stick, but if it's perfectly geometrical like that, won't the 53cm be the width of the paper? Printed correctly one side should match the other. Yes it matches ever 10cm or so, but there might be 5 of those shapes across each roll.

From the Next website...
Each roll is 10m long and 52 cm wide. Pattern repeat 53 cm.

To me that means the roll is 52cm wide and when I am hanging the paper the pattern repeats itself every 53cm as you go down the length. But even looking at the rolls I can't see how it repeats every 53cm, its repeats every 5-8cm at most looking at it.

another take on it - could be printed using blocks around 53cm so although it might look perfectly geometric there may be slight imperfections in the pattern so they are saying 53 just to be safe

But with something so symmetrical/geometric how on earth would you find it?

It would be a nightmare as you'd have to potentially line up each little shape that forms the join which is not practical when hanging wallpaper. Especially when you're putting it on the wall.

At least with floral ones etc its easy to see where the match is but if it is something like you say then it will be a nightmare to match.

might be marked on the back side so you know roughly?
not sure, you probably don't really need it but it's just bum covering from whoever produced it in case you notice an imperfection...

Do you have the paper? can you see any imperfections?

Are the rolls from the same batch??

We bought 8 rolls of the same paper to do our 3rd bedroom, when it came to using it we came to one roll that didn't match at all. Turned out it was from a different batch to the rest so the pattern was ever so slightly out.

If you look on the label for the rolls of paper it should tell you the batch number.

Yep all same batch. Its only one wall behind our bed so didn't need a lot.

Not sure, the rolls are still wrapped up and look as you would expect but I got a sample from Next online prior and cant see any markings on the reverse.

+1

Good luck with Next wallpaper, my last experience was horrific, paper was so thin and kept tearing when brushing the air bubbles out.

Haha, to be fair the sample we got the paper doesnt feel too thin really. It has a nice weight to it. The reviews do say its difficult to hang but i'll take my time and be careful with it.

We've got some of their seagrass wallpaper which im going to be putting up at the same time but in our lounge. It has a textured finish which also feels decent quality.

Is it me or 4th line down and 5th across it's all a bit wonky?

Yeah I see it too! Level with the bottom of the lampshade

Yeh looks a bit skewed on that pic doesnt it, looks to be a dodgy photoshopping.

Is this the Kelly Hoppen stuff? I could possibly find out as I know two people who have hung this exact wallpaper :p

Not quite sure. Just know its called Niko Copper! Looks similar to Kelly Hoppen Geo Panel wallpaper but not quite the same.

It'll mean that when it was printed, it was printed using a 53cm die.

So yes, you could probably repeat from any point if it's a well made paper but literally it has a 53cm repeat :)
