Hi peeps, bit of strange one to post but I’m after some advice or pointing in right direction via link etc.

Was round my parents place other day and noticed what I thought was a Walnut tree poking through the tree line of the rest down end of garden. I was correct upon closer inspection, so asked my dad how longs that been there he said "It just started growing there, I'd say no more than 7 years", its 25ft already!!! Did not realise Walnut trees grow that fast, 50ft they often reach fairly quickly, and have very shallow routes (not good with high winds especially when close to a house since they are great at demolishing buildings).

So until I get chance to chainsaw the thing down next summer, anyone knowledgeable or perhaps a tree surgeon and can advise on best way to just kill it for now using chemicals or another way etc.....:) There’s others trees around but trunks are not bunched.

I think you 'll find that you are not allowed to kill it off. A friend of mine has a huge walnut tree in their garden and they are not allowed to touch it. get in touch with your council.

There's not much the council can do once you've cut it down, if they even know about it, unless they have a very big tube of no-nails.

Personally I would leave it till I could chop it down, what good will killing it do in the meantime? I'd rather have a healthy tree that poses a small risk instead of a dead one with an obviously heightened risk.

Why not tie it down? Use rope to stop it from falling over instead of killing a perfectly good tree.

Well, my Neighbour 3 doors along had 35ft one come down 2 years ago in strong winds, nearly killed his family by demolishing upper floor of house. I spoke to the guys who removed it at the time, and they told me more of these come down than any other tree during strong winds, due to the shallow routes of which support this very tall growing & top heavy tree.

So considering the wind whips accross my parents back garden due to backing onto grass lands with fairly loose soil; once it get's to around 30ft it will be heigh enough to bash either my parents garage or house should it fall...

Tbh yeah think if there's a few days of decent weather before winter months (Big if), then i'll pop round with the chainsaw and ring of death the stump.

It's on your land and you don't want there, chop it down! Screw the Council, it's got nothing at all to do with them. IMO, anyway!
