Waltham TVs? What are they like?

Hi

I'm after a cheap budget TV for the sitting room and I've found a Waltham 26" HD TV for £163 delivered advertised on the online deal forums

According to the website this used to be sold for £369 and it's a bank holiday special

I've never heard of Waltham though and I can find precious little about them on the internet

The manufacturer's specifications are:

* Waltham 26" HD ready LCD TV
* Model no: TV2600HDV
* Resolution : 1366 x 768 pixels
* Contrast ratio: 1000:1
* Brightness 550cdm
* 21000 page teletext
* HDMI socket
* Accepts NTSC signals through the inputs
* 2 scart sockets


Of course I'm not naive enough to place too much emphasis on the manufacturer's specs! :)

1000:1 contrast ratio is about that of a computer screen. Massive difference between that and a PC. Apart from that, you'll likely have reliability issues and so on.

Essentially you get what you pay for, as with anything in life, so it's up to you :)
 
Sound like a complete no-name brand. Can you up your budget a bit? Then you may get some other recommendations for some budget brands like Hannspree etc.

What are you going to be using the screen for?
 
I am not advising you to up your budget for the sake of it. That really doesn't sound like it would be great investment. If you can find a site where it is listed, complete with a number of user reviews then fair enough, otherwise, be cautious.

If budget is important, then as mentioned keep Hannspree in mind as an option. While not my personal taste, my housemate bought a 32" Hannspree for his folks and they love it and another friend bought one for their living roon and they also love it with no problems whatsoever

I'll be using to watch TV, play HD DVDs and for my PS3. It's a risk due to the cheap price and unknown name, hence why I'm not sure

I can't afford any more at the moment but it could be better to wait a few months and get something better. The thing is, even cheaper 26" TVs still seem to be £250 to £300.

I did find a Beko 32" TV advertised for under £200 a few weeks ago too (although the offer has now finished)

I found one user review for the TV2610HDV (this is the TV2600HDV) and it was positive. Odd that there's nothing about it though

The TV arrived today and I'm very impressed

It's got the following inputs:

- RF Analogue TV
- 2 SCART (Both support RGB and Composite)
- Component
- HDMI
- Composite
- PC

The screen itself looks pretty good and build quality looks robust. It was very quick and easy to set up too and it has mounting points on the back to mount it on the wall

The speakers aren't bad at all - much better than the usual for a flat panel TV (at least in my (very) limited experience!)

I've tried it with Freeview (over RGB Scart) and with 1080i digital video over the HDMI port.

One feature I really liked was the ability to turn on and off unused video inputs so they don't appear on the selection list - handy when switching between inputs

The quality looks great to me - no complaints there. Viewing angles are good too

For £163 it's a real bargain

I've taken loads of photos and resized them all to 1024x768. I had a Transformers HD DVD in the HD DVD player and a Casino Royale Blu-Ray disk in the PS3

They used to be a major house hold brand name cheaper end tho.
 
nice bargain, glad you were brave enough to post it too :D

some people on here seem to jump on people who buy a cheap tv or someone that recomends one for that matter which is why i never post about my tv lol.

some of these budget brands can't be knocked one bit for quality vs value and this is one of them, enjoy the tv :D
