wan miniport adaptor (ip) ras async adapter

No driver!

How do I reinstate this driver as I can't get an internet connection on this pc.

I reinstalled windows 7 and when I troubleshoot my internet conn I get a message telling me 'windows did not detecta properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to reinstall the driver.'

I'm not sure where to start. I went to components and under network and adapter there is loads of info but I'm not sure which bits I use to find the specific driver with the use of another pc?

Thanks in advance

Do you know the make\model of the network card?

Do you know the motherboard make\model?

Is it a pre built system like a Dell\HP or a built yourself? If so what's the model number?

Thanks for your valued response

I have a Dell optiplex 7010 prebuilt

Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600

X 64 based

Intel (R) core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20Ghz, 3201Mhz, 4 core(s), 4 logical processors

Bios version A17

SM bios 2.7

I cannot see it listed as a driver under the Dell optiplex 7010 on their website

only wifi driver is Dell Wireless 1530 and 1540 Wi-Fi Driver

Do you have any of the DVDs that came with the computer at all? Does it have a recovery drive at all or did you download the ISO for Windows 7 and do it that way?

Right I've finally worked out that my drivers have gone because I did a fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate. Apparently this removes sp1 along with the relevant drivers.

As my internet isn't working could I not just buy a cheap usb WiFi dongle and update that way?

Also I keep getting a message to activate windows and that windows won't update.

Is this because there is no internet connection or because windows isn't activated?

If it is because it isn't activated I don't think there is any point in trying to fix this pc as it wouldn't be cost effective to buy a new key and I don't know where to get an old copy of windows pro ( original os). If I did could I use the original key that is on the cab or would that have been one use only?

The updating will not work if you have no internet as it will not be able to connect to MS servers.

With regards to activation, If the laptop came with Windows 7 Pro you will need to use Windows 7 pro as the license key for pro will not work with Ultimate.

Do you have another PC\laptop you could download SP1 too?

Other option is to re install Windows 7 but use a version that comes with SP1 already if currently the version you have does not include SP1

If you check in settings it will say if you have SP1 installed or not.

I cannot find an official Microsoft site to download Windows 7 from due to the age of it and being EOL but I do have a copy of all the versions of Windows 7 ISOs which I have kept and untouched if you want me to upload 1 for you (I understand if you would rather not though)

As mentioned earlier, pre builds normally have a partition to be able to reinstall the OS with what it came with but this most likely will not come with SP1 depending on the age of the laptop
