Hi peeps,

Our company has it's HQ in the UK and we've recently opened a new remote site in Hong Kong. We're in the process of getting a WAN connection installed between the two sites but the router we've been supplied with doesn't appear to support our IP addressing scheme, which is Class A IP (10.x.x.x) with a Class B subnet (255.255.0.0). It appears this lack of support is quite common with cheaper SOHO type routers so we need to find something which will work.

Can anyone suggest a router which will work with our setup please?

Thanks,
Andy

if your getting into the big boys stuff with remote offices and runninng class A networks on Class B subnets you really need to be looking at Cisco

if for future potential if nothing else. Because if the business continues to grow, its what you'll find yourself needing eventually, if not now.

What should we be looking for to ensure it supports our network configuration? Would something like the Cisco 850 series do the job? Bear in mind this remote site will only be running a 512k DDN line supporting around 10 users connecting to our Terminal server in the UK

If it's business the least you should look at is a 1800 series cisco, the 800s are home routers. The money is next to nothing over the likely lifetime of the device.
