Hi people

Does anyone know if its possible to use the Wanadoo/Orange unlimited broadband service without using the provided livebox. I want to carry on using my linksys as ive heard bad reports about the livebox, but want to move to their unlimited service.

I think they'll send the livebox anyway but i dont want to upgrade and then be left with an unusable router

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

yeah you can use any ADSL router you like (you'd be amazed at how many people call me with after just buying a plain old router and wonder why they can't plug the USB modem into it LOL)

You'll be sent the livebox, but you don't have to use it, however if you don't use it you won't be able to use the VOIP service.

In what ways is the livebox rubbish - I'd be interested in peoples opinions of it as I'm thinking of moving to orange myself, but will want to use the VOIP so will have to use the router.

Thanks For the reply

Im thinking about using the linksys for the internet upstairs and plugging the livebox in downstairs for the phone.

That way i get reliable internet and free calls

My friend has one and its nothing like a normal wifi router at all. Its just cut down, they come with their own specified WEP key and afaik dont support WPA. I think theyre pretty easy to setup but the wireless is odd. You have to press a sort of 'link' button to enable a connection with a wireless device. I couldnt get it to work at all with their laptop with built in wifi, it hated everything apart from the Wanadoo card that cost £50 that they bought. Worst router I've ever used

Could you link it directly up to another router (through ethernet) and then use the wifi on the other router perhaps? You would be using the existing router as an access point of sorts, but allowing you to then use WPA. Would that work?

i cant get ports forwarded properly at all with my gf's livebox router. cant get direct connect working, or anthing that requires speicifc port forwarding tbh. they do support wep+wpa though. I hate the damn thing tbh.

Should do, provided you can disable wireless on the Livebox.

Thanks for the info about the livebox i think ill stick to my linksys!

Just got my livebox, word of warning for anyone thinking of getting one; since wanadoo has changed to orange you no longer get a wireless adapter included you have to buy your own!

A little annoying since i was hoping to ditch the livebox and use the adapter with my linksys!
