I'm looking to get a new monitor, but I'm clueless about these things.

I've seen people saying to get 27", others to get 24" because 1080p is better suited to it, and that's all well and good, but the panel types are confusing me.

The main criteria is that I don't want a monitor that looks washed out. It doesn't need to be 27", in fact, 24" may fit better and if I were going 27" it would likely be for a higher resolution and that won't be any time soon, so I think I'll get a 27" 144Hz 2560x1440 monitor in a couple of years.

This will be for gaming and I continue to be stuck. I would prefer to be no more than £270, preferably cheaper, but if it's the right monitor then I'll find the money for it.

The criteria's are that it must be 144Hz and not look washed out (as I've heard people say this about certain Benq models.)

Suggestions are well appreciated,
thank you.

144Hz monitors need fast response times, otherwise there's no point having the improved frame rate cos you'll see tonnes of ghosting.

fast response times = crappy colours.

there are ~4 different 144Hz monitors in the <£270 price range atm.

I just got my BenQ, and can confirm, colours look crappy ^_^ BUT I didn't buy the monitor to have pretty colours. I bought it for silky smooth 144 fps, no ghosting during fast movement, and 0 input lag (also I believe it is the only one of the 4 to feature the "flicker free" technology at the moment?)

I'm sure I'll quickly get used to the colours being lame.. :p

I think it's not so bad once you adjust the colors, not great but not bad either.

This.

I am using the benq xl2410t and at time of purchase it was way ahead of everything else gaming monitor wise, colours were worse than my £150 dgm that I had for a few years..... that being said, mess around with it, it gets better, still not great, but its smooth, great for games and general use - you wouldn't want to watch an movie on it, but thats not its intended purpose.

All the BenQ 120+ Hz panels I've seen so far make my eyes bleed :( way too high/cold a default color temp and the colors are ovely bright and vivid at the expense of any accuracy or "pleasingness" to the image even with calibration.

One of the things I liked about my old Samsung 2233RZ - despite you could see the dithering if you really looked close the blacks were deep and gorgeous and when properly calibrated colors were easy on the eyes and fairly accurate if a little bit dull compared to a decent IPS.

Really need to get my hands on the Eizo to see how that fares.

My AOC 144hz monitor is pretty damn good, have a little play around with the settings and its a cracker, if i was going 27" id wait for some reviews of the asus rog as that is 1440p and 120hz!
