Which one to go for?

I have the Logitech G11 right now and dont get me wrong, its a great keyboard but I am no longer using the G buttons since stopping WoW and I want something that feels a little more professional (for want of a better word). The G11 feels a little tacky now and a little too big.

I really like the look of this, and I can understand the price because its mechanical, but what else is there? I love Logitech and wouldnt mind staying with them.

I play a lot of games, some FPS, some strategy and some indie too. However I also do a lot of work in Maya, Mudbox and various game engines, a little coding here and there too so I need it to be comfortable for long use.

So yea, I am rambling now. Any ideas? I dont want to say a price, but if its expensive it needs to be justified.

Thanks

I don't use a gaming keyboardm never really felt the need but here's a selection I'd consider.

1 x Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (920-001165) £67.99
1 x Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard - Retail (JQD-00006) £34.99
1 x Logitech UltraX Premium Keyboard - OEM (920-000189) £14.99

I have the L.I.K. and I love it. Good illumination, love the typing, looks fancy, no issues after 3 years. pros : illumination, short key travel (scissor mechanism), almost laptop feel. cons : space bar not as sharp as other keys, sits pretty flat, even with legs. Got used to it. Been gaming on it for years, FPS like TF2, L4D, BFBC2, ect... Also some guild wars but that's hardly testing it.

Sidewinder x4 : Illuminated, no key ghosting, well priced and well reviewed. Microsoft knows how to make keyboards.

Ultra X Premium : Office keyboard. I love this one as far as cheap keyboards go. Good typing feel, short keys, not the squeeky plasticky mechanism I've found on microsofts and other El Cheapos. Never had problems gaming on these either. Metallic finish tend to wear off and reveal the black plastic underneath.

As for key ghosting, I've never had problems gaming on a standard keyboard.

Illumination is great. If I'm gonna go for a fancy keyboard, that's one feature I'd want.

Then you have all the razer gaming keyboards and so on, which I know nothing of.

Wow, thanks for that detailed post.

The logitech is a no straight away as I dont like the shortkey presses. I have never liked laptop keyboards, nor the mac ones, so thats a no.

The sidewinder looks ok to be fair, but something tells me that I wont like it...

The cheaper Logitech is a no, although I love the older keyboard look, its just a no lol.

Any opinions on this? I know its compact, but thats not a bad thing really...

Ah well, that's what I like, so I won't be much help.

I don't know first hand, but it looks 'sensible', given it's a gaming keyboard.

I would consider the Steelseries as well. Some people will diss the looks and the lack of features, but that's what I like about it. However it's expensive, and not backlit (which is a kinda 'big' deal for me). It would be better to have first hand experience beforehand, or chance a return under the Distance Selling Act.

There is also the Razer Black Widow in terms of mechanical keyboards. It's about the same price as the 6G. Will be easier to get some user feedback on those.

Yea I think what I am after is just a sensible looking keyboard for gaming and general use. As you say, it would be better if I could test out some before purchasing. :(

I might have to have a look at that steelseries, but I think the shift button would annoy me too much.
