Impactic D1NU-S NUC Case - Silver @ £89.99 inc VAT

CA-027-IM_400.jpg

Combined with an Intel NUC mainboard the D1NU series allows to set up extremely efficient, fanless yet powerful computers with a volume of only 1.3 liters. Technically the D1NU is not a case but a heat sink for the built in NUC platform. Two massive aluminium heat sinks are fixed between the front and rear bezel. Lost heat is conducted via a precision milled heat spreader to these heat sinks. As no ventilation holes are required for cooling, the D1NU is suitable for all applications in which noiseless operation, dust protection and low power consumption is required on minimum space.

The heat spreader is precision milled from one solid piece of electrolytic copper (99.99% purity). Front bezel is milled from 4 mm aluminium, while the rear bezel is made of chromium steel. A special soft shield at the rear bezel minimizes electromagnetic interferences. The IP67 power switch has a blue ring LED.

25 mm distance between NUC mainboard and bottom of the case allows additional connectivity. Two additional serial ports (USB to serial converter required) and a WLAN antenna can be mounted via three breakout-type blankings in the rear bezel.

- Compatible with Golden Lake D33217GKE & Ski Lake DCP847SKE motherboards
- Dimensions: 170 x 67 x 114 mm (W x H x D)
- Colour: Black
- Standard: Intel Next Unit of Computing (NUC)

no one uses optical drives anymore. Iso's and media on a NAS is the way forward.

That's an interesting idea by Impactic. Quite a large fraction of the cost of the NUC, but otherwise looks good.

You don't sell the motherboards?
Any chance of some inside pics, what can you fit in. There? Msata ssd?

Why would you want optical out? Hdmi has made it redundant, unless you have an old amp, but then you can't expect companies to keep putting redudent connectors on.

I wouldn't call it redundant quite yet. Unfortunately not as common as it once was. My Arcam avr280 doesn't do sound over hdmi. I've tried new amps around the 1-1.5k mark and they didn't hold a candle to it so I'm sticking with it until I can afford the avr600 or something as good.

I wouldnt class my speakers as reduntant but they dont have hdmi input and quite frankly can`t seem to figure out why would active speakers have hdmi.

nice cases but arnt they bigger than nucs standard size tho?
liking mine but after a weeks use i can see why most peeps are switching to passive cases. plentfull dust there already

Erm, come again? Optical audio out hasn't been replaced my HDMI.

Yes it has, these are designed as HTPC type devices. Optical has been outdated for a while, this sector is absolutely dominated by hdmi. Optical does not have the bandwidth for hd audio, so it's outdated on the bandwidth as well.

optical is not outadated, still has its place. you should be able to use a usb dac if need be.

Deff thinking of taking my NUC (DC3217IYE) out of it's original drab black plastic casing and re-homing it in one of these lush looking Impactics.
Im a bit confused however, what's the difference between the D1NU-S and the D1NU-USB-S and which one should I be looking to purchase?
Thanks.
