I'm really bad at texting and never use all my txts (500)

I also would like to be able to type in notes/ideas quickly. I currently have an N73 on O2 Online contract. I really don't like it, it's slow (Nokia site says I'm on up to date firmware) and I hate typing on a normal mobile.

I'd like the Vario 2 (or whatever it's called normally) I also like the look of the Sidekick 3.

I'm probably going to sell my N73 and get either a Vario style of Sidekick. The Vario 2 seems expensive. I don't really need a smartphone. Just something I can txt with well, email and talk with.

Any ideas? I don't think I'd use email much as it's really expensive on O2.

Maybe look for 2nd hand Vario I (or XDA Mini-S), which should be much cheaper by now. It's got a QWERTY keyboard as well, so it's fine for texting/emails.

I'm not exactly sure how Blackberry works in connection with personal email accounts that use POP3/IMAP, so I'm not sure whether to advise you to find a 2nd hand Blackberry - depending on how easy it is to set up the back-end software, that might be worth exploring as well.

BTW, data is much cheaper when you take a bundle - it's around £6/month for 5MB, and £16 for 36MB on O2 (Yes, a real rip-off compared to T-Mobile, but still cheaper than paying MB by MB).

I've had a vario 2 and on the size of those keyboards you aren't going to be any faster than using a decent phone with T9 or similar, they only really come into their own when doing large text entry like emails, or using spreadsheets, browsing internet etc.
Also they mean you have to use both hands to hold the phone. I said in a post yesterday that the rocker keys on the M600i work well for me, another option to think about.

I've got a vario2 - keyboard is great for texting but I agree, it's hard to text "on the sly" as you have to use two hands.

I've got a bluetooth brainwave reader though, so I don't have to touch my keyboard.

Sometimes, the lengths of emails that I manage to type out on my TyTN actually frighten me afterwards when I view it on my desktop computer  I look at it and think, "I did that with just two thumbs??"

But as others have said, it's not great for a quick text. Also, the size can be a problem with jeans, for example - I just bought a phone (Nokia 6233) to use as a normal phone, and relegated the TyTN to PDA usage with email.
