Want an independant E-mail provider that empties into Outlook Express without any contact with my ISP's email services.
Any suggestions as to the best means of dealing with this would be gratefully received?

Do you mean something like Gmail or do you mean independent of the ISP's mail servers? If you want something independent of the ISP mail servers no chance. Everything you get sent will go through the ISP servers.

1and1.co.uk have a domain name with email package for about £0.69 a month

You get 5 email accounts with 150 aliases

you need to sign up for a domain name ... @ £2.99 for 2 years

The you can be anything@yourdomain

works through any internet provider, the mail server requires a secure logon before fowarding mail.

Also you have full webmail access so even if you're not at your pc you have access.

It's a great service as your email is then yours until you cancel so you keep the same one when switching ISP's

Loads of places offer outgoing mail services too (avoiding your ISPs mail servers) - they just requires authentication. 1and1 is one example, as given above.

Thanks have to check this out. I am with ukonline which is having probs with its e-mail not withstanding the fact that no mention is made on their web site! - and the green for go is indicated. I sent myself an email at 14.30 from yahoo OZ and still not arrived. So I am looking not to have to rely on ukonline's mail servers as they just aint reliable and I need reliable. Otherwise I find ukonline fine - have to have a word with Roop! I get my yahoo mail directly emptied into my Outlook Express box via ukonline's mail ( now stopped so have to keep checking yahoo)

setup a free gmail account. free pop3/smtp service - it runs smtp on a non standard port so won't be blocked by your isp. :)

it's always been reliable and the web interface is cool too. i know you're going to use pop3, but even when you download mail using a client, gmail archives it so you can still read your mail where ever you are through a browser.

For me the best one is Bluebottle.

It basically has a challenge and response spam mode on there meaning that when somebody sends you an e-mail they have to click on a link and enter some numbes before the server realises they are real people (gets rid of all the bots) of course you can turn that off.

It's also very reliable, does every format known to man (i.e. POP / IMAP, etc.) and it's free. There are paid for packages if you want to send huge attachments, etc. but the free one is still very good.
