Hi all long time no see.
Im wanting to come back to pc gaming as after 6 years with consoles I've lost interest in them wanting back to pc way of doing things like moding games your self and free add-ons if there is any still ?

What Im looking to build is my own steam box kind of thing and need help and info please. (I want the world part) I want it as small and quite as possible clutter free and play on 50" plasma with full eye candy

Now am I wasting my time going for a top end graphics card when im only playing in 1080p but on the other hand I want as much life out of the card as I can, looking on the net adout direct x 12 if its on the cards any time soon but what I came up with is amd say there not going to be any dx12. Is this true ?

Also I see cards have hdmi sockets on can they carry the sound to the tv to ?

If not do all mobo's have optical outputs so I can plug into surround sound?

Cpu's intel i7 or amd wait for there new one steamroller if im corect ? Again life span got to justifi to the missis why I want a pc insted of ps4 and have to put off upgrades for as long as possible lol.

wireless keyboard and mouse how good are they now. I tried my old xp rig out on the tv the other night but with a old wireless set and the receiver more or less at my feet on a usb extention lol and can you get track ball wireless mice ?

My old old rig anything I can us from it for a new buld its agp running x1950 pro only thing I can think of is the dvd rom ide and a sata hdd and I think a 600w psu but not sure if it will cut the mustard now days?

thanks jimbo

To try and address your questions:

You can put together a nice prodigy build, that will be quiet and powerful for what you need.

A current generation graphics card such as 7950/7970 will do you nicely for what you need, at 1080p a 2GB graphics card will be suffice.

HDMI can indeed carry sound to a TV and will output it without the need for any external jack leads or anything. However motherboards can handle sound input for surround sound as well.

You'll be better off waiting for the new socket to be released which is 1150 - Haswell, Ivybridge is about to become a dead socket.

Wireless keyboard and mice work just as good as wired pretty much, a 1ms delay is what people say the difference is between them.

The PSU will work if it is a of a decent make, the HDD will also work as it's SATA however the IDE drive won't work.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the info one other question will I have any trouble with my old games running on Windows 8 I loads of them I like to try again. I like my reto stuff lol

If you want it small stay clear of the Prodigy - while it is a Mini ITX case it is not small.

I'd suggest a Cooler Master 120 as you can fit some pretty large GPU's (I've had a 7950 and 670 in there with a good few inches to spare - 3xslot cards wont fit though. Remove the side 80mm fan as it's loud and install two silent 120mm fans in the front in place of the stock 120mm.

I just got back into PC Gaming and wanted something that fits the same bill as yourself; see my sig.

just had a look and just what I was thinking of nice price to. did look at a prodigy on youtube and it looked bigger than I thought

anyone know when hd8000s land ? tempted to wait if not to far. if im right will they knock the 7000s down in price ?
