Has anyone seen this beast in action, or know anyone with a prototype system:

ClearSpeed CSX600 Co-Processor Board. Turns your ~5Gflop system into ~50Gflops super computer.

If this thing works as advertised, it will be very big indeed. I've heard they have very stiff competition from both Intel & AMD on similar product.

I've read the price tag will be between $1000.000 & $10,000.00 per copy.

The techno babble says: "The board is provided with supporting software in the form of standard software libraries used in a variety of
applications. Currently available or under development
are: Level 3 BLAS, FFTW and GROMACS.
"

Now would these Gromacs have anything in common with the models used to crunch certain F@Home work units? From gromacs.org, Gromacs enable programs to "simulate the Newtonian equations of motion for systems with hundreds to millions of particles".

It's be cool to just drop on of these boards into a pc and suddenly see a ten-fold increase in ppd!

Oh, and is pci-x another name for pci express?

PCI-X != PCI-E

PCI-X is found on high end server stuff. PCI-E is probably mosting a graphics card in the computer you're using to read this.
The number of times I've wanted to jump through my screen and strangle people in the general hardware forum for that reason is inumerable.

They are actively working on porting GROMACS to the clearspeed coprocessor system. w00t if you've got a lot of money, I'd say.

EDIT: I need to invest in a keyboard whose shift keys work.
