My current setup is
AMD X4 620 2.60 PROCESSOR
4.0GB 1033MHZ RAM
windows xp 64 professional

Ati 5700 series
gpu 700mhz
memory clock 1150mhz

a foxcon Mobo (not sure exactly)
normal harddrive nothing special

I have about £500-£600 to upgrade
and want to spend it properly to upgrade the right things first.
Use it a lot for gaming.

Cheers

a few questions, just to see whats worth recycling from your old PC. most of which can be answered by downloading a program called CPU-Z, or by taking a quick look inside the PC

is your RAM DDR3?
is your DVD drive IDE (big ribbon cable) or SATA (small flat cable)
same question for the HDD. also, is it big enough or do you want a new one?
what make and model is the case?
what make and model is the PSU? (also, roughly how old is it)

do you want windows 7, or are you happy with XP?

sorry for the mass of questions, but it'll mean we can squeeze the most out of your budget

The case is a case that came as a barebone bundle from a *** No Competitor Hinting ***

HARD-DRIVE and DVD need updating if im honest

I have windows 7 So my error on the current post.

The PSU is definately gonna get replaced aswell
Ram isnt DDR3 .
Thank you for asking those questions as i focussed on the other bits

hmm, the cases in those barebones bundles dont look that great to be honest. fair enough if you want to keep it but i've put one in the spec.

i've also noticed that your close to qualifying for free shipping. you need to have been a member for a year and have posted 100 times on the forum. if you hang around the general discussion part of the life section you'll get those posts done in no time

From what I've read the 2500K is the best for gaming at present, definitely worth it if you can fit it into the budget OP

Thanks Reaper.
Could i get more from my Money running a AMD setup??
Always used AMD but im open to all options

dont bother with an AMD setup, the i3 2100 stomps all over everything AMD can give you in terms of gaming. look at the FPS scores of the i3 2100 vs the Phenom II X6 1100T:

yes the phenom is better in some places, but in gaming the i3 2100 is better despite the smaller pricetag

up it to an i5 2500k and the intel beats the phenom everywhere:

thanks for the advice reaper.
Think that the build you suggested is the one i may well go for.

Unless anyone else wants to add there 2penneth?
