Hi guys, i've decided to build a new desktop computer. I build many before, but i had the same for years now, so i'm not really updated the new hardware technology. So i want it to be high performance, don't really need it for hardcore gaming, but i want to be able to connect it to a lcd tv and watch downloaded hd movies(do i need a media case??) . I also want to use it as a stereo, so i need a sound card that can support a dolby surrond system.I did some reserch and i was opting for a Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K , ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3,G-Skill 8GBXL Ripjaws DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz 8GB. Do you think i'm going over the top? remember please that i will keep the computer 4/5 years before i will change it again. So if you can suggest any other cpu, motherboard and please give me some hints for video cards and audio cards. thanks Alex

if you dont want to do gaming atall then the onboard graphics will be more than enough for what you have in mind (you will need a Z68 motherboard for this)

also, onboard sound is pretty good these days, so generally a soundcard is only recommended to audiophiles or people who work with audio. im 90% sure onboard can do everything you need it to, but im happy to be proved wrong here

before i make any recommendations i'll need to ask a few questions:
whats your budget?
will you be doing any gaming?
do you have any SATA HDD or DVD drives you can salvage from somewhere

for Hyburnate, i need a hard disk(500gb to 1 tera its more than enogh) and dvdplayer because i'm building from scratch. don't need operating system since i'm going to install linux. so the grafic card you suggest has a hd exit that i can connect to a tv?
Reaper 392 i diden't really set a budjet but i would like to stay under 900 maybe with a monitor included in the price.

Hard drive are quite expensive at the moment so it may be better stick with a 500GB HDD, This one is £60.

If you are not gaming, on-board will do you fine but if you are venturing into light gaming (not would about Crysis 2 on ultra) A discrete card such as the 6670 stated or a 6770 would be a good purchase.

These cards do have a HDMI output to a TV, yes.
