So I'm looking into building a HTPC instead of buying an Acer Aspire Revo 3700 which I have found for around £185.

Can It be beat for value I'm struggling?!

I have an OS so dont need to shell out on that..

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

u could try buying 2nd hard parts to cut the costs, and then might get something cheaper that'll work.

there are advantages of spending abit more to make your own thou.
getting a better looking case that fits in with your hifi equipment for example.
or adding in optical drives, bigger harddrives, etc
or using an SSD to use less power, quieter and faster booting

it really depend on what ur use would be.

for the internals, ur looking at
about £100 for ION based motherboard
£15 for 2gb ram
£30 for a hard drive (160-250gb)
leaving you about £40 for a case and psu (althou htpc cases tend to be more)

Main problem with trying to build super cheap HTPCs is finding a decent case/psu combo if you want something small. Also if you want an ITX build the motherboards aren't generally too cheap.

Just get the Revo. I was in the same position as yourself. It really can't be beat for value, style and practicality. It's 1080p capable, has 802.11n built in and supports windows 7. Not too mention it's virtually silent, uses very little power and has 6 usb ports and optical out.

The only way you would do it cheaper is using second hand parts and buying one of OcUK aphrodite HTPC cases for 40 quid. I have one in front of me right now as I just received it this morning... (HTPC for a friend) It's no where near as good a quality as the Revo. The front panels are flimsy and sticky. I was expecting it though for a case and a 500W PSU for 40 quid.

Conclusion: Get the Revo.

I guess I'll gety the revo! at 185£ you really can't go wrong I suppose (unless you can find it cheaper ;) email in trust) :P

p.s. thanks for the input guys

I'm sure it's exclusive to the company in question. They have exclusivity rights in the UK to sell it. £185 is the best you're going to get. I paid £200 for mine.
