Hey guys,

I want to build a new PC and was looking for some recommendations. The following is what I need:

- New Motherboard & Processor
- New Case
- New Graphics Card

I heard there is some dual core stuff that's worth looking at?! :S And I assume PCI-E cards are the way to go with regards to gfx?

Any recommendations on where to start would be great...

Thanks...

A budget would always be useful :)

Also, are you in real need for it or can you wait for another 2 months?
Are you interested in gaming, multitasking or both?
Do you want "bleeding edge" or "value for money"?

These will always help us choose parts for you ;)

hehe...budget...d'oh!

I'm not looking to spend more than £500 on those parts...and hence...they do have to be pretty top spec. I know the gfx card is going to set me back about £200 at least. So if I can pick up a chip and a MB along with a half decent case for the other £300 then that would be perfect. PC is mainly used for gaming and multimedia.

Could definitely wait for another 2 months? Something decent getting released then?

Cant beat that: ;)

Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS) £54.95

OcUK GeForce 7900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-037-OK) £159.95

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Silver Aluminium Midi-Tower Case (No PSU) (CA-038-LL) £47.95

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3800BVBOX) (CP-134-AM) £171.95

Subtotal £434.80
VAT £76.09
Total £510.89

Nice spec Kizz, I would go with the above, however whats the A8N-E like for clocking?

OffTopic: Do you still have an Epox 9NPA+ Ultra?

The A8N-E is not bad for average clocking. The Abit KN8 Ultra nForce4 Ultra/SLi might be a better option. Yeah i still got that mobo.

Just wondered if you had seen the thread on Epox forums about the vdroop and dodgy vcore readings. Mine is set to +0.05v in the BIOS and records 1.55v in windows when idle but I measured it with a multimeter and it is 1.65

Yeah my reading in cpu z is 1.55 but multimeter reading is 1.65, yours could be 1.6 as well, I think I believe the multimeter more.

LMAO!!! You are joking right? Your only looking to spend £500 and you want top spec! Your only going to be able to get a mid/low end system for £500. You can spend your entire budget on getting a top end processor alone and not even be able to afford the top end processor (£700+). You can blow near enough all that on the top end graphics card (£499.32).

If your talking building a complete new PC your looking at case, PSU, memory, processor, graphics, hardrives, motherboard, CD/DCD drives, floppy drive, sound card. There is also the possibility your going to need/want to upgrade cpu fan, case fans, cables. If you really do want a "TOP" end system your going to have to start saving.

If you want a mid range system then you can get a few bits on most motherboards like onboard sound and the standard cables, most boxed cpu's will come with stock hs/fans, some cases will come with a psu....if it will be powerful enough to run a high end graphics card is another matter.

yeah you will need summit with a bit of ooommmfff if your gonna Oc it :) Some good ones in the "this week only" section on webby :)

Agreed, also make sure you get a good quality make of PSU if your intending to o/c your system and want a "top" end graphics card. There is no point on cutting corners with PSU's, getting a micky mouse make and pos blowing it along with some of your new gear.
