Thinking about getting another EAH4850, but not sure if my Zalman 500W psu will be upto the job. The only thing I'm seeing is the occasional judder and struggle in COD4 otherwise everything else runs silky smooth. So this upgrade would be purely to turn COD4 (my fav game obviously) into a pure silk number ! 1900 x 1200 with everything on max.

Would a 2nd 4850 fit the bill? and would my existing psu be upto the job?

I doubt it - I was trying to run a Q6600 + 8800GT SLI on a decent quality 500watt PSU and getting reboots - I'd say you need atleast 600watt.

I'd want a decent 800 watt at least 60a on the 12v rail to run crossfire I know a lesser pwoer supply would be okay but you have to think of the strain you are putting on it and not wanting to run it at 90% capacity.

Poor quality psu.

I've already said this before, I run a quad at 3.6, 8800gtx sli, 6 hdd's + w/c on a 520w corsair.

In b4 people advising 800-1kw psus.

Two 4850 should be fine.

I wouldn't call PC Power & Cooling poor quality

I was running:

Q6600 (3gig motherboard is unstable with more :( )
2x 8800GT (overclocked)
2gig OCZ Reaper 6400
3x 120mm fans
2x 80mm fan
1x 250mm fan
2x Seagate 7200.10 HDDs
Watercooling Kit

It would randomly reboot sometimes just sitting idle in windows - swapped out the PSU for an average 600watt and its been fine since.

Definitely a faulty power supply. A quality 500W will easily take Crossfired 4850s. HX520 ***.

Its powering another system with Q6600 and a single 8800GT fine - so I'm not sure its a faulty PSU... imo 500watt is cutting it fine for dual gpus + quad core.

Im thinking faulty power supply too.

AMD have listed for crossfire 4850 that the following are certified powersupplies ..
Antec Neo 550W
Antec Truepower 550W
Thermaltake Purepower 550w

amongst others and as they always overstate the requirements you know that a lesser good quality supply will also be ok.
