Hey guys,
Used to enjoy those minor ones loads when I was young, and I am still very interested in the high detailed ones, with loads of parts, although I haven't bought since I was about 8:p

I was wondering where I should start, I like the look of the complicated model kits, but I fear that I would mess it up due to it being overlycomplicated and messing up the paint/gluing together.

Am really mainly interested in cars, motorsport, rally, road cars, anything automobile really!
Don't want something too basic with like 10 parts to it already painted, want something medium level, until i can move up to a higher level.

Whats the best company to go with, any reccomendations on specific models or companies?
Know any cheap places where they are sold or how much I should be looking to pay for a decent one, any that come with paints, glue already with it etc.?

Thanks in Advance.

I think you should take a look at spc.org.uk - heavily car & bike related.

Lots and lots of stuff on there, check out the sub forum with works in progress so you can see what the kits are like and the end results you can get.

Tamiya make some real good quality kits in 1/24.

I would say budget for some decent modelling tools because there's nothing worse than getting annoyed with a crappy tool.

If you are looking at cars, Tamiya make the best affordable kits, followed by Aoshima and Fujimi (Fujimi kits can be pretty poor but they make lots of kits nobody else does)

I would recommend www.hlj.com particularly for Fujimi and Aoshima kits, massive range and cheap shipping and prices. they also stock all the tools you are likely to ever need.

Thanks for the sites guys, no place in England that sells the models for cheaply, since that site has some slightly odd prices like 100 quid for that Ferrari F1 car:eek:

Search the site properly, there are THOUSANDS of extremely cheap (£5-£15) 1/24 kits there.

What do you want to build?

Yeh, just spotted a few for sale, but how much is shipping and will I get stung with taxes etc.?
Like I said in my OP, motorsports, sports cars.
So particular interests are rally cars, F1 cars, lambos, ferraris etc.
Thanks a lot for the help Lopez

loads of sites where you can get stuff from!

UK:

hiroboy.com
modelsforsale.com
netmerchants.co.uk

There's also luckymodel.com in HK which is good. How come I order from there and postage costs me say 87p and it is delivered to my door by RM. Yet order the same product in the UK and it is double the price and the postage is about £3.50 with RM lol?

I've ordered boat loads of stuff and never been stung on taxes (yet)

80p:eek: Will check that one out too, thanks to all of you for your information, keep it coming!:D

EDIT-Dublove, that site you use, the HK one is very odd shipping wise, it confuses me :S

Revell and tamiya are your best bet. They both make a range of F1 and rally/ sports cars in 1/24 and 1/20 scale (models are about 6-8" long).

A good place to shop is hannants. They are the UKs biggest model shop and have a shop in Colindale, London as well as their main place in lowestoft.

I mostly build armour models but I've built a few cars. This is Revells Sauber kit I built a few years back:

hmm Hannants don't seem to have many car kits looking on their site..
Online stores are preffered, really want a Ferrari F1 car and Subaru Rally car, also that new GTR model by Tamiya looks amazing!

ok guys, the best site seems to be http://www.emodels.co.uk
good prices, like the F1 '07 ferrari for 14 quid!
They beat prices elswhere, so anyone know where it is cheaper?
Also, they beat shipping costs from competitiors, theirs is 3.50, would prefer it was cheaper, so anyone know model sites that have cheaper shipping in the UK!
Thanks a lot guys..
