Hey all, Ive been surviving on games consoles and my little netbook for the last year, since my pc died. And I was content with the arrangement, until seeing youtube videos of DayZ, the Arma II mod. Cue, non stop badgering of the missus until she caved in to my demands hehe. The only trouble is the budget. £500 is probablythe absolute max I can convince her to agree to. So I need some advice on what system would suit me best. I already have a monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse in a cupboard. Along with a couple Tb external hardrives, so wont need massive storage in the pc. I will need an OS though, and preferably the option of dual monitors.
Other than that, I need a system that can run Arma II and the DayZ mod with ease for a couple years, and will hopefully keep up with other modern games for a while as well.
Any and all help very greatly appreciated.

What's your opinion on settings, do you like to have it at very high quality? What kind of resolution for the monitors? £500 isn't a huge amount but it'll get you a decent ish rig, second hand may be a better idea.

My friend runs DayZ with a FX-4100 and a 5450. So those are two really cheap option for you to take. Thats pretty much bare minimum though. He livestreams him DayZ gameplay on his channel so i can link you to that for proof. I would personally use that as maybe your base with what Micky have give and upgrade the graphics card with whatever money you have left over?

As for my settings, Im not fussed about the highest quality, as long as it looks ok and runs smoothly.
Micky, is that a shopping list for a pc to build myself? If thats the only way to get the power I need, then I will just have to be a fast learner lol.
Will none of the 5-600 Titan systems be fit for the job?

You could look at this pre-built system.

If you want to go really with the skin of your teeth you can upgrade to the 5450 for £21 and you then have a system that can play DayZ minimum settings. £497.46 with shipping. So its right up at the budget line. Id recommend other places but its against the rules.

Here is the DayZ video i told you about though.

We can run DayZ with a 5 yr old 8800gt GPU, rest of rig is reasonably top notch ivybridge K series i5 but gpu is dreadful. It is an old game but with the DayZ mod is very CPU heavy and less strenuous on GPU..

Minimumspec is
OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor: Intel Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz
Memory: 1GB
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8600GT or ATI Radeon 3650 or faster with Shader Model 3 and 512 MB VRAM
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c
Hard Drive: 10 GB free space

An i3 should be loads. Build it yourself, take your time and it all fits together a bit like lego :) get as good a GPU as you can afford but something around £100 will cover all current games at 1080 as long as you aren't searching for ultra settings at 1200. I would ask for a £500 gaming build in general hardware and you will get some superb builds. They get a bit too focused on running games at ultra settings and overclocking to the very max.. A more relaxed approach will get you a build that will keep you gaming in perfect happiness for a good few years and will be very easy to put together IMHO.

Good luck regardless
