Hi folks,

As per title, I wanted to give Oblivion another go as I haven't played it properly for ages and want to start again but this time with mods, but I do have specific requests for the mods I want to use and there are SO many mods that I'm a bit lost tbh, so please can someone help me?

I want mods which improve the graphics so I was thinking Qarls Texture pack 3 Redimized? are there any other decent, reliable mods which improve the graphics? but I don't want mods which change the graphics e.g change the look of armour etc totally, I only want mods which improve the graphics/textures, if that makes sense?

Are there any mods which balance the gameplay more, - specifically addresses the NPC leveling "bug"? I know there is a overhaul mod which radically changes this and much more, but I would like a mod which doesn't change the gameplay hugely, but only changes it to make it more balanced.

Also given the above, are are there any other graphics, or other mods that you can recommend I use?

any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Been a while since I played last, and I used Oscuro's mod but that really changes things around. But off the top of my head..

Darnified UI
Shaja's LOD mod
Qarl's mod
Quest award leveller
harvest flora
AF's levelling mod

OOO completely changes the game so its well worth checking out for another playthrough.

I also used Streamline, Keychain, illumination within, Darker Dungeons, Better Book Jackets, Better Gold, Natural Environments, Better Distant textures, Add Map Markers (reveals all locations on map) and the BTUI mod.

I'm sure I read that these mods can smoke your save games?

That still the case?

Would like to play this again myself...

Never heard of that, nor experienced it and I've got dozens of mods installed.

I really can't remember which good graphic enhancment mods I have, but I'll list the ones I recall as being favourites of mine:

  • Natural Environments
  • Unique Landscapes [There's more than one, get them all]
  • Ren's Beauty Pack [Adds more character detail options]
  • Francesco's Mod [Alters the gameplay, but not as drastically as Oscuros' Oblivion Overhaul. Could be what you're looking for, I certainly prefered it to OOO]
  • Martigen's Monster Mod [Should be used with Francesco's, or OOO if you go for that]

I think that's it, though I do recall having a lava replacement mod of some kind that worked well. If you haven't looked already, try searching on The Elder Scrolls Nexus (TESNexus), it's the biggest database of Oblivion mods going.

I use Natural Environments, Francesco's Leveled Creatures and Items, Qarls Texture Pack III and Martigen's Monster Mod. I find this combination of mods drastically improve the game without bogging it down too much. Oh yes, I also use Steamline V3 which helps with the FPS.

Hi, i just bought and installed this game, and i'd like to use some these mods. Is it as simple as d/l them and they install thereselves? or must i install them another way?

Ok sorry for the lack of info on my last post, i was in a rush.
Basically, i want to d/l any mod for improving the visuals of the game.

So far ive d/l natural enviroments, and it's a zip file. what exactly do i do with the file? where do i extract it to?

Any help would be great as i'm really noobish at this kind of thing!

There might be some sort of readme in there. If not, if I recall correctly you just dump it all in Oblivion's data folder.

im interested in this too, has anyone got a site or a few comparrison pics, i got into it then ended up being very repetetive but i think that might of been the way i played it

I'd definately vote for Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul for anyone who found it repetitive - totally corrects the levelling system, so a level 1 character WILL need to run away a lot, especially from creatures, but a level 10 wont have such a hard time.

Makes it more like what it should have been to be honest - and then there's always the difficulty slider to tweak, if you find things getting too annoying. I often slide it up slowly as I level up through the game anyway.
