I have an old system that I am running Ubuntu on 11:10 on.
This was originally a Philips Freevent MT1800 with win XP as operating system.

The motherboard is a Elite Group computer System socket 775. 945P-M3 version 3 ( Although on there website I can only find a 945L that seems to be the same)
The Graphics Card is ATI RV515 Radeon X1300

I’m about to purchase a Samsung S22A350-H 22" wide-screen Monitor, and I would like to replace the Graphics card to a newer version that has HDMI connection.

I don’t play games at all but I do watch films and edit my Photos

My question is. What card would be suitable as a direct replacement ? I don’t want to spend more than £50 to be honest as it is an old system.

Thanks

As it is an old system, you don't want to spend much and that you only want to watch HD movies etc I would opt for the HD5450 Silent GPU.

The card is low profile and runs straight from the PCI-E slot which means now extra 6 pin power connector.

The card is silent, so no fans making any noises and the card has enough memory bandwidth to play HD 1080p movies.

Finally, it has a DVI - VGA and most importantly a HDMI connector, and all of this for £22.99
Thanks for the info much appreciated. I only just noticed the reply, after I, placed an order forOcUK GeForce GT 430 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-144-OK

Any opinions on this card ? I also placed an order for BenQ G2222HDL 21.5" Widescreen LED Monitor all arrives tomorrow :)

Thanks again ;)
