hi all.
looking for some help. been searching but no luck. hoping for someone to point me in the right direction.
I want to turn my desktop pc into a dedicated server for gaming (bf2) as I loved this game but since the shut down of gamespy there are only a small number of servers left and want to have my own on order to play this.
I can create a local server on my network but it don't show in the muilty player in bf2. of course I know its set up differently but I don't know how its done. this is my goal is to have my desktop turned into a dedicated server in that list.
in the future want to be able to host many older games that are no longer supported for those who love the older games. I have 4 pcs I would be able to run as gaming servers.
yes I know it hard to run that many due to upload speeds of my internet but if I could run just bf2 would be great.

my rig is:
asus rampage 3 extreme m/board
asus 5970 graphics card (looking at xfire/sli for another board as have 3 spare slots available. any suggestions welcome)
6G ddr 3 ram
i7 950 quad cpu o/c @ 3.5g
850g hard drive
200g ssd
76m internet connection

any help in finding a way of turning my desktop into a gaming server with free software would help me greatly. you will get a reserved slot for you help :-)

many thanks for any help

I think this would possibly be best in general hardware than a project log buddy.

The Internet connection would possibly be your biggest problem as a start. What is your upload speed on speedtest.net?

Assuming you're with BT by that number? So your upload would be give or take 10mb, right?

A BF2 server will run fine as long as you don't have a ridiculous amount of connections

sorry wasn't too sure where to post the thread.

upload is just under 10mb yeah. read that for a 64 player server it only needs around 4mb.

my problem is finding the software/ how to in turning my desktop into a game server.

any point in the direction will help.
