Want to upgrade but concerns about problematic mobo Network chips

I'm in the process of a complete new build but I find that both onboard Intel and Realtek 2.5Gb chips seem to have issues. The Intel problem seems to be the worst as only the third revision of the chip fixes the issue apparantly, and very few board have this chip (the Asus Strix B550-ex for example, and all the new Z590). The Realtek problem from what I gather is close to being resolved through drivers. My head is spinning from reading up on it tbh. I'm either upgrading to a B550/X570 system or a Z490 system (got my eye on the B550-E strix, the B550-EX strix is too pricey for me) and this onboard LAN issue is really giving me pause. Can anyone give any feedback on their experiences with the issues please - did you encounter them, do they only occur in specific situations, what fixed it for you?

I looked into this aswell for a intel build im looking at doing thinking of just getting a z590 board but will wait to see if the issue is 100 percent sorted

From what I could find the Z590 boards are a little pricey for me, but I'm keeping my eyes on them too

Yeh give them a month or 2 theyll hopefully come down a little :)

Yeah very true. I'm fighting the upgrade bug, I was on the fence about it with a 6700K and a GTX 1080 gaming at 1440p, but then one day I got lucky and snagged a 3080FE! The floodgates have opened lol

Why not just buy a NIC as a temporary measure until the issues are resolved? Seems a shame to put an entire build on hold over one potential problem.

I find it's worth having one sat around as a backup anyway, I've had onboard die on a couple of boards in the past.

Be useful if you actually described what the issue is instead of leaving us guessing. ;)

The issues for both the Realtek and the Intel seem to be frequent disconnects, low bandwidth, and packet loss. Different people report some or all of these issues, the majority of which at 2.5Gb/s, but some at 1Gb/s. Sorry if it wasn't clear from my OP, but I do not have a board yet and am holding fire on purchasing before I can get a handle on how to mitigate it. Intels I225-V controller is now on it's third revision which completely resolves it's issues, but most boards do not get this revision (many are on the partially fixed Revison 2 of the chip, and older stock I guess is still on the first Revision). The Realtek RTL8125 chip has similar issues, but their communication is that future drivers will resolve it. There are plenty of suggestions to work around it, but typically some work for some and not for others, some with a 2.5Gb/s lan, some with a 1Gb/s lan. Most B550/X570 and Z490 boards use either of these chips, only the Asus Strix B550-XE has the fully fixed Revision 3 of the Intel I225-V controller (and it's a bit pricey for me). MSI for example switched all of their Z590 boards to the Intels I225-V Revision 3 because of these issues - here are some MSI guys speaking of this: https://youtu.be/w1MyE2Wc25E?t=1275
So basically I don't have problems myself as I don't have a board, but wanting to upgrade to a B550/X570 or Z490 I'm going to have to deal with potentially problematic Realtek or Intel networking and was looking for any experiences from you trusty ocuk folk :)

For me it's extra cost, also it's going to either take up a USB port or a PCIe slot. For B550 which I am leaning towards, some boards share bandwidth between certain slots with an M.2 slot - on a new build it's just not something I really want to have to work around and spend more money on. Having a spare as you say is a good idea though.

Gigabyte have a new version of their white themed B550 Vision D board, the new one is called B550 Vision D-P and is hitting our shores very soon. Sadly (and rather annoyingly) it has revision 2 still of the Intel I225-v NIC and not the fixed revision 3 (someone with the board sent me a device manager screencap). This board also ticks a lot of boxes for me so a bit frustrating, but it also has Realtek 2.5Gb/s ethernet too (it's dual NIC) so I guess I can pick my poison lol. Thought I would post this in case anyone searches for details in the future.
