Hi,
A year ago I completed my first complete 'Build', you can my spec in my sig.

With lots of advice from everyone here, at the time it was the best spec I could afford with my budget with the idea of upgrading graphics at a later date. The x1950pro was and still is an awsome card but its just starting to struggle with latest games (crysis the exeption as everything struggles!)

My questions to you are:

1. With a budget of £220, (Will still be £220 after christmas!) should i upgrade now or wait untill the new nvidia cards are released in 2008 ?

2. If upgrading now, i was looking at a baseline 8800gts 512mb, I have read these cards run hot so should i be looking at a baseline card with a aftermarket cooler or for the same money a higher clocked card but suffer the possible high temps (especially with the standard overclock).

Soz for the long post guys,
just a bit confused !

I'd just personally get the GT and use the money saved on an extra like a nice Logitech momo wheel on a new gaming mouse. Or beerz :). I don't think you'll notice much change between a GTS and a GT. Wouldn't bother with AM cooling either, I've got it and it's really nothing special, sure it shows off a cool temp but doesn't do much else the card doesn't want to clock for me, migth happen to you too since it's the luck of the draw.

yeh i supose the more i save now the less guilty i will feel Q3/4 next year when im sure i will be wanting another upgrade, even if its only to see crysis in its complete glory pulling sumthing over 30fps !

does the gt suffer from the same high temps as the gts ?

stock (cheap) 8800gt or a factory overclocked one ?

Ok, so you only live once and all that and iv convinced myself to get a 8800gts 512mb, wahoo for me !

does anyone have any advice on which make is best ?

should i get a reference clocks model or pre overclocked model ?

I have heard the zotac models have superior memory (rated to 1ghz/2ghz effective) ?

can anyone with one of these cards reccomend the make they purchased ?

thanks a lot people

Lol relax be patient we're not always on the forums.

Uhm well I've told u what I'd do personally, I'd just get the chepaest 512mb GT out there, both are quite hot but that doesn't really matter as they can handle the temps.
An oc version will hardly give you any frames if your fps are 30 anyhow you aint gona see more as 35 max... Not worth the cash imo, and yes if you plan to upgrade within the next 12 months again defo get a GT.
