ok i got this computer not that long ago maybe 3+ years-ish and im looking to upgrade some parts in order to live-stream at 720-1080p currently i got a

intel core i5-2500k @3.30ghz
asus p8p67
16gb vengance ram
nvidia geforce gtx 460

wondering what i should upgrade for better performance was thinking about changing the lot so i can say as an example stream bf3 at around 120 fps if that's possible but i would like to be able to live stream smooth and play smooth i can handle most non heavy fps games on medium settings but it makes game play sluggish

also looking to spend maybe around £500 if i can get a good setup at that price or am i just dreaming

yea id like to overclock but kinda scared of it lol so new graphics card was thinking of getting a maximus mobo which can support my 1155 cpu and see if i can afford to sli 2 graphic cards

I think you would struggle to play and stream @ 120fps on the same machine.
I guess it would depend on what program you use to stream and what internet connection you have.

The worse the connection, the more the streaming program has to compress your gameplay to upload it as a viewable (smooth) video. This in turn uses more of the CPU which will have a knock on effect on your gaming.

Saying that, using a separate PC you still couldn't do it because capture cards can only record 1080p@60fps max atm.
Most only do 1080@30fps.

Other thing to take in account is where you stream your gameplay. Some sites like twitch won't allow viewers to change the resolution on the video unless the streamer is a partner. Viewing a 1080p stream isn't easy :(

Personally I think streaming @ 720p is good enough, which you should be able to manage with an overclock on the CPU (to around 4GHz, I recommend you get a better cooler if you still have the stock one) and a new graphics card.

my upload speed is about 2.7 ish and i can manage at 720 without much trouble like i said mostly the problem is the game can get sluggish so will overclocking my cpu sort that out ?

It will help yes, but 720p on 2.7Mb/s means there is a fair amount of compression going on.

Before you spend out definitely overclock as it will be your CPU doing all the stream encoding.

I'd forgot about sli, you'd be better off getting an HD 7970 or GTX 670 if you want to stick to Nvidia.

Overclocking the 2500K 4.5 Ghz is pretty easy, 4.0 Ghz is as easy as breathing.
You will need a reasonable CPU Heatsink, not the stock junk.

It might be an idea to assign CPU affinity so the streaming/encoding is done on one core and the gaming on the other 3.
