As the title suggests I want to upgrade some of my PC components, in particular my CPU, motherboard and potentially my case. Any other upgrade recommendations are also welcome!

Thanks!

I have a budget of around £450

Here are my current specs :

CPU
Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz
Lynnfield 45nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D LE (LGA1156)

Graphics
PLE2407HDSD (1920x1080@60Hz)
3072MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series (Gigabyte)

Storage
931GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)

Optical Drives
ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI CdRom Device
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C ATA Device

I cannot find the exact name of my case but I have found a photo, here:

Certainly looks like you could do with a new case. However, your current CPU is still decent, and could hold you out until Skylake, which is due in Dec/Jan next year? Or you could just go for it with a full board + CPU bundle and keep your RAM

An SSD would also be a nice addition. Your GPU is still quite strong as it will be a 7950 or 7970, so you could keep that

What do you use the PC for (what games?)
Also, what PSU are you running?

I thought I should too haha. As far as the CPU is concerned I'm willing to go along with the majority of advice, although I would like an upgrade as soon as possible as I feel that may be why I am becoming increasingly unable to play new games maxed out... Doing this will likely mean that I will need a new motherboard as you said. My gpu is a 7950 and yeah like you said that should last me a few more years.

As far as games are concerned I'm looking to play the next-gen stuff for example gta v and The Witcher 3

You could look at dropping in a used i7 for a cheap and cheerful upgrade with some nice gains, and then overclock, or even overclock your current CPU

An SSD is a definite idea I think, it makes such a nice difference to the general usability and speed of the system (not FPS though)

Those games should play fine on your 7950, and try overclocking your current i5, and then if you get the new board + CPU you can just transfer the heatsink and GPU across

Have you tried running GTA V and The Witcher on your current specs?

What PSU are you running at the moment?

No I haven't with either game yet, as I was unsure if I would be unable to, I used the site CanYouRunIt which seemed to think my processor would be an issue to both games

I would be looking at changing that PSU up with any upgrades you do, it's not a no-name no-brand PSU as HEC is a big OEM company but it isn't of the greatest quality

I would certainly at least try your current system on the games, if you don't like it much then nothing to stop you from upgrading :)

Sure, do you have a CPU heatsink already? Assuming not
