All over the world...
Just came across this on my daily browse of Daily mail. Seems like a company is going to try and combine both touchscreen keyboard with physical buttons.

Looks freaking awesome, best of both worlds. Buttons that pop up when you press them then disappear when you dont need them.

Also something else i caught on my daily browse of the internet is that Corning, manufacturers of Gorilla Glass are developing a new screen called 'Willow Glass', which allow for bendy, curvy screens. Looking forward to seeing what phone manufacturers will do with 'Willow Glass', should make for some interesting looking phones out there in the future.

Some amazing tech being developed at the moment.

Looks good, however.
How noticeable are they. I can imagine them being visible and annoying when not in use.

Also phones/tablets are designed to rotate/have different keyboard layouts Im assuming it has to be printed. Limiting you to what it can actually be used on.

Does sound good, by the looks of things, the tactile surface 'rises' out from the screen for keyboards etc..

But....

Id rather keep my Gorilla Glass, and the protection it offers to my viewing experience, than have blobs that rise out to increase my typing efficiency!

Now if they were scratch proof..

From the sounds of the video the surface is dynamic so it deforms to automatically form the keys regardless of orientation and what keyboard style you use and possibly even responds to your touch and receeds a little like a key would when pressed.

See to me, when not raised you could see where the buttons where, to me that strongly suggests no dynamic ability at all.

And possible fugly shapes over the screen as well.

I would love to see this on phones, I'm fine with keyboards (Swype) but with gaming, nothing beats a good physical gamepad.

The keys recess back into the panel leaving no trace of them ever being there. It's all in the source info linked.

The keys aren't just buttons either, they can form patterns/shapes and lines too.

This has massive potential for all manner of things from brail keyboards for smartphones to gaming, not just controlling games but the screen being part of the game whereby you can feel things moving under your finger in the game world perhaps.

In that source video, you can clearly see the buttons, when recessed. I expect due to change of material, so you can still see the outlines.

See how when recessed they are clearly visible.

And
Button layouts, shapes, location and sizes can be customized

Means they are preset. Rotate the phone/tablet and your screwed. Maybe useful on phone where you have more use in certain apps like texting. But unless they make it with thousands of "pixels" that match the changing buttons/menus then it's a massive problem.

It's still a new concept so like anything it will improve and I think it is a great improvement on the touch screen
