Going into a Lian Li Pc-P50WB mid tower. All options considered (eg nvidia or amd radeon 6970unlock). Needs to be powerful and pretty quiet. Going to SLI in future, and I can push the budget to £280 if I really (<--emphasis) need to. Power supply is a corsair TX750W. Ive been researching for months and just cant find the perfect compromise. Thanks.

You can flash this to a 6970, and it seems to be the coolest and quietest 6950 out tere

That one doesn't have a bios switch, making flashing very risky. I know its much quieter than reference, and I would have bought it if I could flash it risk free. To be honest, if they made a twin frozr 6970 I would have bought that as well, shame they dont.

I just happened to read somewhere that only reference cards can be flashed. Don't know how true that is as I have a mate who seems to have successfully flashed a twin frozr to a 6970. Oh well.
Leaving this option aside your best option is probably a gtx 560 or 570

Yes won't be a problem overclocking them with that PSU, you can even run two GTX570's in SLI with that PSU :)

I'd opt for the GTX570 if you can afford it though, at that res and overclocking, you can reach GTX580 levels.

"Quiet" is very subjective. Most people are deaf imo :). I had a GTX570 a cpl months ago and even at 30% fanspeed the thing was unbearably loud. Considering the 6970 is supposed to be louder, I wouldn't recommend any card with a stock cooler.

Good to know it has already paid off choosing a good brand PSU. To be honest, I am considering only having 1 GPU for the time being. I could get a 570 twin frozr, expensive but should overclock like a beast. Then next year I could buy another if i needed it, and hopefully by that time it will be at GTX 480 prices. Is there any game at the moment that a overclocked GTX 570 couldn't play on max settings? I'd find it hard to believe that there would be, considering it would pretty much be on GTX 580 levels.

The Gainward Phantom 570 is a very quiet GPU. My Apache silent fans make more noise.
A lot more expensive than a 6950 tho.

The gainward looks like a solid option. Does anyone know what their RMA is like? Also, its a bit bigger than 2 slots, so would you be able to run it in SLI with a P8P67 Pro? Can anyone else confirm that I could run 2 of these in SLI with a corsair TX750W psu?

If this is your motherboard:

Yes you can run two Gainward Phantom GTX 570s in SLI as there are 3 slots available per 16x slot. You can also have a soundcard in the top slot as well on top of two triple slot graphics cards.

A 750 watt PSU would by just about ok for two GTX 570s in SLI, I wouldnt recommend overclocking two of them though without at least an 850w.
