Hi all!

Thought there may be a dedicated trading area, couldn't see one so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Basically I've got an old Intel D875PBZ based Alienware rig (yes, it's rather old hat now :P)) and I'm now using it as a bedroom PC. However, it's got a stock Intel CPU cooler, and it's far too noisy.

I'm looking for something quieter, ideally fitting into the existing stock bracket on the motherboard, but if I need to remove the motherboard and fit a bracket for a specific heatsink, I guess that's not too bad :)

Can't see anything decent in stock on any sites now, and on eBay I can only see cheap models which I doubt will be quiet enough (many state they are only good up to 3.0GHz, which suggests to me that if I did use them with my 3.2GHz, the fan would be on high all the time).

New or used, doesn't matter :)

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums :)

We do have a place to trade things here called the Member's Market.

The members market is provided as a free service to active and contributing forum members. OcUK are not liable for any deals that are done in the Members Market, you are free to buy and sell at your own risk. Please read the rules of the Members Market before you proceed to make your first sale.

Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 250 posts, you will need to activate your trust. This is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Once you satisfy both of these criteria, Members Market access will be granted within 24hrs. Please do not post on the forums asking why you cannot access the members market, if you have any queries, email one of the forum Dons/Admins. The contact addresses are available in the FAQ.

Not sure about what cooler to recommend as a replacement. Someone who has more experience with 478 coolers may provide you with some information.

Many thanks for that, didn't realise it wouldn't appear until I had loads of posts.

Hmm... I've been offered a Nexus cooler, which looks like it's designed for rackmount (so I wasn't sure how it would work in a full-size tower), http://www.nexustek.nl/ppr-1030_skivetek_intel_socket_478_cpu_cooler.htm

Ta for the help :)

All of the good p4/cores coolers are 775 and above, if memory server almost all the 478s are just variations on the stock one and probably quite difficult to find. If it were me I'd probably superglue a freezer7 pro to the motherboard :). If you can find a bracket then that would probable be the best way to go.
