Hi all,

Apologies for incomplete title, I forgot to change it before posting and that this thread has been posted in the wrong part of the Forums and it being rather long winded however, I have just upgraded my motherboard and PC to an AMD FX 8350 CPU & Gigabyte 970 Gaming Motherboard.

I have noticed that every so often when in game, namely GTA 5 as I've not tested any other games as of yet other than Forza Horizon 3 & CoD Black Ops 3, I get sudden framerate drops from 50 - 60 fps down to around 10 - 15fps.

This does not tend to happen on Black Ops 3 or Forza Horizon 3, and it is almost as if the CPU is throtting, even though according to Speccy & HWMonitor the CPU is maxing out at 50 - 56 Degrees C under load when playing games and only seems to happen in GTA 5.

I understand that these boards are known for VRM issues regarding heat, however, I have a heat spreader on the VRM, on the left side of the CPU and that does not seem to get overly hot, just warm to the touch where as the Northbridge is stupidly warm could this be the reason why I am receiving frame rate drops?

Just for added information if it is useful at all is that the CPU cooler i'm using the Coolermaster Neption 240 AIO, and there are two intakes on the case as well as the rear exhaust fan, plus the two for the AIO water cooler. the case is the Corsair 330R Titanium and the GPU is the Sapphire R9 280x Dual x OC. The CPU also at idle sits at around 36 Degrees C.

Would there be any way for me to rectify this, without having to RMA the Motherboard? Will Screenshots of bios settings be useful.

Kind Regards,
Shane

GPU temps are approximately 30 - 35 on idle and light usage much like CPU, and on load when gaming, it tops out at around 60 - 65 degrees c memtest shows ram is fine, and there are no faulty dims.

the gpu has 3GB gddr5, and it was running fine with my old motherboard and i3 3220 with gta 5 with no frame drops and it seems coincidental that i get sudden frame drops now with the new mobo and cpu and I will try that now and will get back to you

Run HWmonitor in background whilst gaming and check for max temps at any of CPU or system etc.

NB tends to run hot on the FX series, 60-75C is not uncommon. Much higher and it could be a cause. Try to reduce either NB voltage or frequency. Auto settings may provide too much voltage.

I've checked temps already with HW Monitor and I did get temps wrong in op as it is actually the northbridge that gets to about 50 - 56 and cpu is about 45 degrees C under load, and they are the max temps and I did what lude1962 suggested and all was fine there and cheers.
