looking to get a new laptop.

could really do with 2tb storage on top of an SSD to boot from for the OS. I know the alienware can take 2x NVME drives as well as an HDD so it can bought say as a 256ssd and a 1tb nvme drive and the user can still add more storage.

it's not something that's mentioned on the laptop specs of how many drives they can take. so short of ringing OC, I'm struggling to find that info.

alternatively, when buying a laptop from OCuk, can you upgrade the HDD inside it as part of the purchase?

for example. a laptop comes with 256gb SSD and a 1tb NVME drive and you pay the extra to make it 256gb ssd and a 2tb NVME drive?

if that's not the case,

I'm looking for

i7, 17" screen ideally, RTX 2060 or GTX 1660Ti, 256 or 512gb ssd as a base, but I need to have 2tb of storage on board.

what's out there that has 2tb on board. OR has the space I could add another 1tb NVME drive to what's already present.

for example, the asus tuf range have an SSD and an NVME but can another be added?

I like MSI and Asus having used them before, but am open to suggestions.

What's Medion like? I'm struggling to find reviews of their latest models in english

I have the tuf A15 and have 2 nvme ssd's and a 1tb mechanical hdd in it so as long as it has the 48 wh battery in it you can definitely get 3 drives in it.

Not sure about the 17" model though.

was leaning to the tuf 15 but have settled on msi gl65 after a number of reviews said the a15 gets hot. i know the wife's works msi can take a right battering.

but as its a smaller battery i can add a 4tb 2.5" hdd for tons of archive storage for about £40 more. close call. cant stretch to a 2070 gpu model. I know the medion erazer with 17.3" is tremendous value but cant find reviews for it.

The 1660ti Tuf A15 doesn't get that hot, mine sits with cpu in the low/mid 80's and gpu high 70's while gaming, so not bad at all and I never see it throttling.

If you are getting the GL65 make sure it doesn't have the 120hz panel as it's worse than the A15's 144hz panel in every way.

read some reviews. wow. the msi gl65 screen really does get a slating. looks like I'm back on the a15 tuf and buying a bigger SSD

unless someone can point me towards some reviews of the medion erazer laptops. can't find reviews for them in english. is there a reason for that?

I know they are german, but the youtube videos are all in german. is it actually any good? there's quite a lot of bang for buck there. bigger screen, more storage etc. but is it very plasticky? flimsy? too much flex? I don't know cos I can't find a review.

I have a 15 inch Medion Erazer from a couple of years back with a 4tb 1050, it's only my backup and travelling PC but has been fine.

Completed Resident Evil remake 2 on it so is fine for basic gaming and work. Build quality is decent but some flex as a lot of plastic in build. Not really any worse coming from an aluminium Dell XPS15. Chose Medion entirelt for price per specs, been decent for a budget option.

contrary to expectations. I didn't sleepwalk as such but after alternating between an Asus ROG, Asus A15 TUF and MSI GS66 I've ended up going for an alienware 15 r2.

once I'd added storage to the others I was up to £1550 ish. now we all laugh when web companies say they don't snoop on our web traffic, because last night I got a prompt from dell 'did I know they had up to 40% off dell laptops?' no I didn't but I went for a look. there was 8% off alienware till october 28th and a further 14% off until midnight tonight. so I looked at the alienware 15 r2 and was only £120 more than the above choices. spoke to 3 friends with alienware, 1 who used to but no longer uses and also priced up a Dell G7 17.

the G7 came within £50 of the alienware. slightly better processor and bigger screen (but lower res) so I plumped for the alienware based on build quality and residual value retention.

paid a bit more than I thought I would but think this will be worth it.
