I've been wanting to get into music production for a while.. Mainly Drum & Bass sorta stuff.

I've got quite a bit of software, Fruity Loops which I understand is the most basic, Reason, Cubase and Acid Pro.

I've been DJ'ing for 4 years but want to try something new.

Is it quite hard to grasp? Any good tutorials online?

Thanks.

It's all about using the software and working out how to get the sounds you want. Not that hard in my opinion but will take a fair amount of effort to get the most out of the software. I'd advise getting a MIDI controller keyboard which has faders, buttons and rotary controllers as this will help you to get ideas down and experiment with sounds.

Dance music is exceptionally formulaic so just listen to a bit and you should be able to reproduce the style yourself. The Reason website has some good tutorials for using the synths and other devices that come with it.

Hello mate, iv been using reason for around 2 years now and have quite few tracks using it. DJ'ing is a good foundation for production as you get to know how the music is formed, from the bass upwards. reason is probably by far the best program for producing music so its good that you already have that. It can be quite frustrating sometimes but id definately recommend getting a midi keyboard, however only if you are serious about it. You may like to try this firstly. It lets you use your computer keyboard as a midi keyboard, using QWERTY for example as notes on a standard piano. Its a good way to get started and to find if you want to take it further.
As mentioned above the reason website is good for tutorials. Howver a quick google will find others aswell, heres some of the ones i use:

Anyway good luck mate. Give me a shout on msn if you get stuck, email in trust (i think! At least it will be soon!)

Fruity has an easier to pick up interface, but it is by no means basic.

With the host of VSTs available, amazing music can be made with it.
