Currently have a
Lian Li case, which is about 3 years old, with the stock 12cm fans in front an rear.
Zalman 600W modular PSU
Zalman CNPS950 CPU cooler (the copper coloured one)
and a Inno3d Geforce GT240 with fairly large fan (very quiet too)

Wondering what you guys would suggest to quieten down the machine as compared to my mac or even my xbox 360 it sounds rather loud at times.

Switching out the stock fans is one option, i know from experience that Lian Li stock fans arent the quietest. You say that your gpu cooler is very quiet, so thats one less thing to worry about. As for your psu, it isnt one of the zalman heatpipe units by any chance? As theese are very highly regarded for their silence.

Hi there,

I have done a "Peace and Quiet" upgrade on a few PCs before and I would be happy to give you some help. May I first ask you a few questions:

Would you be able to provide the full spec of your machine including: PSU model number, details of the stock fans, case model no., CPU (also is it overclocked?) and HDD make/model.

Also, how many free external 3.5 and 5.25in slots do you have in your case?

Pentium E2140 with Zalman CNPS950
Asrock P45XE (Passive Cooling)
Lian Li PC-7 Plus Case with standard fans
Inno3D Geforce GT240 1GB
Zalman ZM600-HP PSU

3 Free 5.25 inch bays and two 3.5 inch bays free.
