Wanting to try win 8.1

I have win Vista on one drive on my system, and also a blank drive. If I load win 8.1 on the blank drive, then I will lose the ability to boot back to Vista when I finish testing win 8 8.1. What would be the best option to load win 8 on, and allow me to boot back into Vista at a later date.

The best option, imo, if you don't really know what you are doing with dual booting is to disconnect your system drive and install on the blank drive alone. When (if) you are done, just swap them over. You can just install as is and select the drive to install on, Windows will install a bootloader which will allow you to choose which OS to load, after you are done you can format the 8 drive and revert the bootloader
