Hey guys, I have been wanting to upgrade over the last couple of months (Prob going back 6 months or so) and have been fighting the urge.

What I am after is something like this:

Ideally I would like to keep the price to a minimum (wouldn't we all)

With that in mind, is there anything upcoming in the near future which we foresee pushing any of these prices down significantly? (Like the release of Fermi for instance, when is that expected :S)

My original intention was to go for a 5850 and then get a 2nd down the line when I can justify it, that said I think the listed 5870 for all of £50 more is a better option.

I currently have a Enermax Modu 82+ 625W ATX2.3 power supply, is that sufficient (For a single card)? If not, suggestions on a good replacement are welcome :D

Would an SSD be worth it (Such as the OCZ Vortex one on the "Superb" deal atm)?

Thanks for any help :)

there's no great surprises apart from nvidia fermi i think. i thought they said end of Jan for release? apart from that there's nothing to really get your knickers in a twist over.. cpu power is more then enough. i say wait for fermi and see what happens with graphics card prices.. and yeah get an SSD for the C: drive if you can stretch the budget. you should be set for a year or 2 who knows, but it will be a good build regardless.

I would personally suggest that you change the i5 750 to the "Intel Core i5 650". they are similarly priced, but the 650 runs on a faster stock speed and a better clocker due to the 32nm processing die size.

Your PSU is more than enough for a single GPU. I have two 5850's running crossfire and the recommended power is 650w (this is for 2cards).

A SSD is definitely worth it in my opinion, I will not go back to the standard HDD as my bootable hard drive. It makes everything within the operating system so much more responsive. Boot-in and boot-down time is a lot lower as well.

I went for the i5 750 over the 650 due to the 4 Cores, I thought that Quad > Dual + Hyper Threading!

Good news on the PSU :D

With regards to SSD's I see everyone raving about the Intel X25's. What makes them so much better than say, the OCZ Vertex in the promo, from what I can see they have comparable Read / Write speeds (In fact the OCZ one claims to have double the write speed!)?

After looking around a little more I have come up with this:

This will be used almost exclusively for gaming on my 1920 x 1080 32" TV, so, between the two, which do you reckon suites that purpose better?

What about going for the i7 rig, but with a 5850 instead of the 2x5770.

Or if you overclock your Q6600 and just swap the 4870 for a 5850. This should give you a massive boost in gaming performance and save a shed load of money.

*EDIT*
Get a SSD out of the money you have saved.

:( Unfortunately I have had no end of issues trying to overclock my processor on this board, I really, REALLY hate my current motherboard (a: because I can barely mange to get 3Ghz on my G0 stepping 6600 :S b: because it is a Sli board, not Crossfire)

So I really want to upgrade the mobo, and of course, because of that, I am forced to upgrade the core three items (CPU Mobo RAM) as I don't see a point in buying a new motherboard for old tech.
