Guys,
I have got the dreaded urge, you know the one I mean, we've all had it ;)

Looking at changing my 7970's to either 290x or 780's but very torn between the two.

I have read the 780's are well underclocked are are awesome overclockers but the price difference is the usual clincher I suppose where AMD are so desirable at their prices.

Looking at the 780Ti but wow they are very expensive and if I'm looking at either SLi or Xfire its gonna be damned expensive.

What yer reckon?

Imo, upgrade something else in your system instead, as your graphics hardware is still a very powerful combination. The only reason I would alter the graphics in this instance, was if I wasn't happy with crossfire or something AMD related.

I hear what you are saying but part of me really wants to go green and those damn 780's look so nice.

I am a bit of a benchmarker so anything that'll up my score without me having to remortgage my house is always good :D

Well, as you like to run benchmarks, in your shoes I guess I'd go for two GTX780 cards. However, I wouldn't pay over the odds for them if two 290 cards were considerably cheaper. Two reasonably priced GTX780s would be my first choice, though.

I would save your money, wait for 20nm and a substantial upgrade path. A couple of 780's, ti's, titans, 290's or 290x's will be a decent upgrade and in certain circumstances fairly substantial. But not anywhere near substantial enough to warrant the outlay IMO.

With Mantel looming your going to see a fairly big boost in up and coming games, BF4 to begin with, If I was you I would want to wait and see what this does to that setup first.
