wanting to upgrade

hey. im wanting to upgrade from my Q9550 but my main reason to upgrade is my motherboard, its an x38 maximus and its just not well suited to this chip and i dont see a reason to upgrade the board without upgrading the chip and im wondering what to get. what are the new phenom am3 chips like? because i really want a DDR3 system, and what motherboard? all help on this is greatly appreciated =]

i guess it will be more like a sidestep if clocked to the same speed. personally i think your only upgrade route will be i7, if your looking for a performance increase

ahh :/ so the new phenoms are no good then?? i guess i got a bit of saveing then >< Near £600 if i wanna go I7 :S lol. i really wanted to go back to AMD but i guess there stuff still aint very good ><

The New AMD Stuff is very good but its competing in the similar market to what you have now so there is not going to be much in it.

If you did want to go back to AMD then the best thing would be to wait for the Phenom 2 X4 955 which is due out next month and has a 3.2Ghz stock speed and is AM3.

Just read thats its due out on April 20th so one to watch out for.

yeah! and if i was to get one, what motherboard would be good? and im glad DDR3 is cheap now =]
