Yes, another one of those threads!

Looking for an affordable gaming PC mainly for WoW

Currently running a Q6600 with Radeon HD 5700, and it's painfully slow these days (6 FPS in busy areas)

Worth upgrading or should I just buy a new setup?

Budget about £300

Won't need monitor, keys or mouse

Cheers :)

Would my HEC-550TD-PTE mean I could get away with just buying a new mobo, CPU and GPU?

No idea if HEC are any good or if 550w is enough to game on these days

I'd suggest a 750ti gpu atleast. Im not sure of the quality of your CPU. The game can be pretty CPU demanding. What resolution you playing at?

You could try that gpu and see what it's like. Might be a good boost on its own? Check to make sure it's compatible with the rest of your rig first though as I'm not an expert. Only been into this for a year or two.

Thanks for the reply

Bottleneck with 750ti and Q6600?

Any idea on a good budget Mobo & CPU that would go well with a GTX 750ti?

A bit of reading suggests an overclock to say 3.4ghz on the CPU would make there a lot less of a bottleneck.

I do suggest you just get the gpu for now. If it doesn't offer enough if an increase for you you can then decide to get a mobo and CPU. Could also allow you to scrimp a few more pounds together

I'll get my hands on a 750ti and see how it goes

Thanks

If your budget is £300 then consider a good CPU cooler to overclock your CPU, a decent PSU, and you can do far better than a 750 Ti with your budget.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £305.02
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Do note that Nvidia are about to launch their 10 series of cards which will push GPU prices down.

Great replies, cheers

I already ordered a 750ti
I'll set that up and see how it goes

Wouldn't the 960, PSU and fans be overkill for my Q6600, and leave me with 0 budget left?

Will the CPU probably hold me back -- so a new mobo and CPU should be next, right?

I think the PSU should be next honestly, it's not really reliable and will hold you back from doing a decent overclock/better GPU.

My friend just added a 750TI to his Q6600 system for WoW, It does get bottle necked but has improved performance. (Im hesitant to overclocking it for him, Don't want to have to pop back and forth if there is infact instability issues from my novice OC skills on such old hardware!)

I am not sure of the power of the CPU that's why I suggested the 750ti and its not likely to hurt his psu either. And it's not expensive so you could try it and if it seems the cpu is a problem you would have more to upgrade that.

I haven't played wow in years and last time I did u used a laptop with i5 and mobility Radeon hd5000 series and played all the games I had up to the release of the panda edition flawlessly, but you should be able to play wow and a whole variety of systems.

Your quad should handle it, your psu lacking and that 5700 series gpu is likely your downfall.

Unless you really need to then you don't need to spend 300, get a good quality 500-600w psu with 2x6 pins and spend £60-100 for a Radeon 270x(I am biased on the gpu ha) and you will be good to go .
