Well, I resisted for 9 months but I've gone back to it! Now I want to finally level my druid I started way back in 2005. It's currently lvl 57 and not sure which way to go for levelling etc. Is feral still the way to go or moonkin route? Got a couple of weeks off on post op sick leave so plan on hammering the game!

Personally I'd go the Moonkin route as if you have a dual talent spec you can heal as well as doing damage which will help if you plan on leveling through instances (which once you get into TBC will be much quicker).

I would personally say go for Feral...

I am leveling a feral druid at the moment and have been doing so the past couple of months (currently 71). I have had lots of fun with feral, and if you duel spec you can tank or heal which will get you into any instance in seconds. Some people say moonkin is faster leveling, however I have no problems with Feral, as i have no down time healing and than dps in cat form... and can quite easily take on multiple mobs much higher and come out better off... even doing 3 man group quests on my own is relatively easy...

Feral has zero downtime and much easier to get gear from quest rewards etc from.
Moonkin basically has zero gear until lvl60+ and while moonkins are highly amusing, they play slightly like a mage with no snare or frost nova which gets a little annoying when mobs get into melee range.

I leveled a druid and Feral levels a lot quicker and easier than moonkin. However if your planning to play moonkin at lvl80 i would start playing as that now, so that you get good.

+1 for Feral.

I find Moonkin boring as hell. My Druid at 80 is Resto mainspec, Feral off and needless to say, getting groups is awesomely easy with that setup (assuming you go tank as Feral).

I would go with feral, I always find it easier to level as melee, plus you get to use energy which means no drinking and resting.

Another one for Feral. As many others said no downtime and the ability to solo group quests. If you are prepared to tank you will always find an instance at any lvl without waiting.

If this is your first character then I would gear yourself towards tanking.... gives a very in depth look at the game mechanics and allows you to learn boss fights better etc...

and at the level your at now, if you do tank, be very weary of douch bag death knights who think they know better.

Just levelled as a boomkin in no time... dead easy and outlands was laughably easy.

I find feral boring personally.

I have been a druid since wow came out. While I am an end game Resto Druid I allways level as Feral (ie TBC and WotLK) launch. I personally find feral faster with less down time, more survivability (bear form), better solo capabilities (again bear form for higher ranked adds) and also in my guild tanks are in higher demand for the 5 man instances during the leveling process.

If you plan to use instances a lot while leveling note that you are proboably best having either a cat/bear or Resto/Owl dual spec set up as tanks and healers are in higher demand for instance and while leveling the gear will lap nicely in those areas.

While even though I started WotLK with full SWP resto gear (throw some hit at it and it makes very reasonable owl gear) I found it easier getting feral gear. I beleive feral gear is much better itemised through leveling than owl gear.

To be honest while i would say feral, owl is not without merits, Some of the hardest things I have solod have been with a mixed balance/resto spec using CC and distance to kill them.

Feral is the way forward.

Gear is more easily obtainable. zero downtime. and can tank... tanks are always needed for instances. you can join a dungeon within a few seconds when signing up as a tank.

And you also get kicked in seconds for not having enough gearscore ( on doomhammer anyway... GS is like an evil plague now hehehe )

Its getting to the point now where people are demanding 5k Gearscore and at least 4k sustained DPS in heroics... i mean how did we ever do heroics at the start? silly people wanting to faceroll instances in less than 5 mins. Maybe they should have 2 LFG systems... a new player one and an overgeared one.

Im raidng icc25man on my main char ( warrior ) and i levelled a boomkin for a change, the amount of abuse i got starting heroics was laughable. I was able to outdps most other people though which usually shut them up. So many players now just dont know their class or how to maximise dps. GS has become the be all and end all for these kind of players.

yeah i've recently transferred to Karazhan to join the OcUK guild there... and the gear score BS is evvverywhere. im just glad my gear just fits into the bracket of being decent enough for most things.

Tanks shouldn't really get kicked, so long as you can play.. heroics tend to be fairly leanient. mainly cos their so hard to find. same with healers really..

different story with raids though, its just GS GS GS FAPFAPFAP! ... etc..

Its pretty annoying when you know that you'll outplay most of the players on the server with the rubbish gear your in, lol. experienced players tend to lol hard at GS!

THAT!!! :)

feral cos you can move in and out of dps and survival (and healing ish) while soloing.

got a lvl 80 resto druid with feral offspec (got gear for both dps and tank ( i move between the two specs as needed), and its sooo easy to get a group when you can literally do everything

Thanks for all the replies, looks like feral is the way to go! It's been so long since I started this char that I've forgotton what's the best kit to use. Should I be looking for stuff with agi/sta? As for GS what's that? I only play for the fun of it and it all seems to be getting a bit anal for some with regards to dps/crit hits etc :)

Feral all the way, insane dps plus you can happily tank whenever you get the itch to swap. Either way you can always swap around with this dual spec crap.

Depends on your playstyle really, i hate buttonmashing and while i did level to 70 as feral if i did it again id go the balance route as soon as it was viable

On the other hand being a tank will make it much easier for you to find a group when you hit 80 so the practice can be worth it if your doing a lot of dungeons

Wow that is very strange.

I leveled a druid in late 2005 to 60 then to 70 as soon as TBC came out, then I stopped playing the druid totally. I leveled as Feral all the way to 70.

I JUST last week rerolled my US account (Just gone back for the 4th time now in 5 or so years). And have been leveling my druid. I decided this time to level as Moonkin and I cant believe how much it has changed from the level 60 days. It is FAR better than Feral imo now.

Can't suggest leveling as Moonkin any more :) I'm currently level 77 and topping meters in PuGs, even had a few geared randoms in some instances.
