So I am thinking of getting this and then maybe the Add on.

What is the game like?

Played the MMORPG world of warcraft and liked that, is it based around the same concept (as in same monsters and stuff)

Thanks

One of the best RTS games I've ever played in my opinion.

The gameplay mechanics are similar to Generals (which kind of stole the WCIII style), but it does have a couple of tiny RPG style things in it with special hero characters.

I've not Played WoW, but it's all the same universe, you've got Humans, Orcs, Undead and Elve races, so 4 campaigns in total I think.

yea, and the add on to it (frozen throne) adds some new missions and units. You should be able to pick both up pretty cheap together.

Multiplayer is where the game really opens up, custom maps add a huge variety of gameplay. I'm not an overly enthusiastic RTS player but I've spent a lot of time playing custom maps in WC3, specifically ones where you control one hero/builder and no other units directly.

WarCraft 3 is alright but it doesn't compare to Total Annihilation, C&C Gold+RA1 or StarCraft. There are many better RTS games out there but it does have the unique hero element and there is an average sized competitive community.

Single player is OK, multi is fantastic.

Dont play on Battlent till you know what your doing as its VERY competitive- practice skirmish vs computer, then try some 1v1 on battlenet. Watch your replays and download some from internet.

When you think your OK at it then try some 3v3 ladder matches and youll be hooked for months. Be patient though as the 3v3 games are very competitive and allies will be ****** off if youre still learning- BUT after youve lost several games youll start being matched up with worse players and itll be more fun.

Crucially, Battlenet runs beautfully and finding your next ladder match takes about 15 seconds on average. Games are basically lag free apart from the very occasional game when a player just drops.

I baught it when it first came out but got bored pretty quick, i played wc2 to death so thought 3 would be nice but for some reason i just didnt click with it.

Just dosnt compete with Starcraft, and i wish to god that Blizzard would make a SC2 and build up a sick franchise using that, other than crappy WC one .

The problem with that is none of the original team are at blizzard any more. If SC2 wasn't at least as good as SC then blizzard will lose a huge percentage of the fanbase as people switch to SC2, don't like it, and thenm never return to SC.

im currently playing through frozen thones right now (having recently also played and completed wc3 for the first time)

tis a sweet game... hero's and special moves add a lot to the rts genre
