Since applying the latest patch, my WoW performance has taken a major hit.

Never really pay much attention to what they do (O know I should) but is there a specific part of the graphics engine that has been enhanced by any chance? I used to run it on Max settings with no probs (1920 x 1200)

Dell XPS M1710
Centrino T7200
4Gb Ram
Vista Home Premium
Geforce 7900GS (256mb)

Hey up,

A fair bit has been done,

The draw distance has supposedly been increased, dont notice itmyself

And shadows have been added, this will be the frame rate killer, drop it one notch up from basic.

You should see an improvement in the FPS.

I think its badly programmed, on my pc, 4ghz with GTX280, in stormwind i now get slowdown while i never used to, only used to be shattrath, even some places in the outlands struggles.

My framerate has been up and down quite a bit and its settled around 40fps where I am at the moment. It's enough of a drop to be annoying, but new graphics card comes this week so I'll tolerate it.

Its the high poly counts combined with the new shadows that are crippling your frame rates.

Dont forget, they upped the maximum for terrain draw distance by a large amount too.

I run all on max atm and for the most part its perfectly with out dropping below 30 - wich for a game like wow is perfectly fine. The only place i have issue with atm is terrokar forest, everywhere else is fine.

drop your settings back so it looks like old wow and you wont notice a difference...ie.. half the draw distance, turn shadows to lowest setting and reduce the spell effects by one notch

My fps has taken a large hit, its a pain because it ran fine before the patch.

Im wondering if the sytem reqs have changed at all.

they have from

* OS: Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) or Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
* Processor: Intel Pentium3 800MHz or AMD Athlon 800MHz
* Memory:
o Minimum: 512 MB RAM
o Recommended: 1GB RAM
* Video:
o Minimum: 32MB 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as an NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or above
o Recommended: 64MB VRAM 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability, such as an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 class card or above
* Sound: DirectX-compatible sound card

to

* Windows XP SP3 or Vista SP1 (Windows 2000 no longer supported)
* Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1.5 GHz (up from 800 MHz Intel/AMD). Dual-core recommended.
* RAM: 512 MB/1 GB for Vista, doubled from same as previous. 1 GB/2 GB recommended.
* Video: GPU with hardware transform and lighting and 32 MB VRAM, same as before. Recommended 128 MB VRAM.

Very modest specs still...

It's a shame because I dont notice any changes at all really?
Still playable at max but I'll need to knock the settings down a bit...

Those modest specs aren't for playing the game at high resolution with everything cranked up to the max though.

A flexible engine can have low basic specs and still cripple high end systems with everything turned on (see the original Farcry, for example)

Biggest problem I've had since the new patch is that it hates both crossfire/x2 graphics cards and Adaptive Anti Aliasing. If I don't disable Catalyst A.I which apparantly knocks out one of my cores the game flickers REALLY badly constantly, and with the adaptive aa on max quite a large amount of the game was translucent; trees, bushes, parts of my war bear, parts of my head. Took me ages to work out what the problems were. Performance seems pretty solid though not as high as I'd expect from the new rig so it'll probably be due to this performance hit that's been going around :eek:

The game runs fine for me max settings, in fact its running even better then it did before the patch. In major towns including shattrath i dont drop below 60, in quest areas i'm geting over 200-300 fps at times.

I have 260 gtx sli so i dont know if they have inculded sli support for the game now.

The shadows seem to be broken for me on max settings so i use the setting below max. Also i noticed add ones seem to effect frame rate a lot, so try disabling any add ons you have see if that helps.
