Did a search for this and it came up with nothing which was surprising. I've been a fan of many RTS games from world in conflict to classic command and conquer and then i found out there's a whole series of these games which i never knew even existed!

Just saw it advertised on youtube and watched a few gameplay videos and i was very fascinated by the level of detail and gameplay mechanics. First impressions to me it looks like an expanded world in conflict. I'm very tempted to get the early access, but does anyone who's had first hand experience recommend it? and why has it had so little interest?

Fantastic series of games in my opinion. European Escalation still attracts a relatively large number of players because it's slower and therefore more strategic than Airland Battle and now Red Dragon. If you love military RTS games then this will definitely go down well!

I would say that there is a little bit of a steep learning curve when it comes to online play - unless you read into the different units and the strengths and weaknesses of the different roles they can take, you might get your rear-end handed to you! Still a fantastic game to play though, I usually play it a few times a week with some mates either against AI or against other people and it's always a good laugh!

I am one of the most vocal supporters of the Wargame franchise but at this time I don't think the new navy units will work - maybe I am wrong (I've been in closed beta for a bit) but it turns the game away from what it should be tbh. I'd hold off and see how things go and in the meantime snap the excellent Airland Battle up if you can get it at a decent price.

I have the first Wargame:EE and thought it was fantastic but it did take some invested time to get to grips with. Once you have the basics sorted the gameplay is superb and quite epic at times.

I'd defo grab this new addition as the vid's I've watched look really good but there's too many other games I have on pre-order atm and not enough time :p but I highly recommend playing the first.

Bought Red Dragon on Saturday and had a faff around with deck creation. Not really sure what to make of the new system.

I'm mainly looking forward to beta releases of AI skirmish and 10vs10 modes.

Surprised there's not a larger thread on this as it seems to be a popular game.
I've never played any of the Wargame games and it does really interest me. Would Red Dragon be the best place to start, or one of the older titles?

Depends on how much cash you have. You can get Airland for very cheap to see whether you like it - if you don't have any cash worries just get Red Dragon. However, am not finding Red Dragon has struck me as much as Airland did I am not quite sure I really like the naval units tbh.

I've just found Red Dragon for £18. Unless ALB or EE is better, I'll probably just go for Red Dragon.

At that price go for Red Dragon. I suspect most of the people on here who bought the previous ones have Red Dragon too. There is a list of us all in the Airland Battle thread for purposes of multiplayer.

Don't play it like an RTS or you'll lose ... badly :D

Artillery is to shock and stun or lay smoke it doesn't kill.
Airstrikes need to be through clear corridors with the flight over your side.
Keep a synergy of units - what you want is a coherent and balanced approach.

To give an example, if you want to hold a town which had some trees at its back you would place infantry in the town - standard troops central with antitank on the sides so the standard troops take the brunt of the attack. Buildings back from the front face will have AA troops and more standard troops when the front ones get depleted. In the trees you would place gun type AA along with antiarmour vehicles and/or tanks. Behind the trees once again in cover missile AA along with say mortar artillery.

Now if you were attacking such a position you would say launch smoke (artillery) between the trees and the town. Whilst the smokescreen was active you would then napalm the town and commence a SEAD run (antiradar plane) at the missile AA. Once this has taken effect you would then use shock troops in infantry fighting vehicles to take the town along with a barrage of artillery rounds on the forest to suppress the armour in there. You would then bound your armour over your infantry in the trees to then shoot through the other side from cover.

I am sure from you grasp the general principles - combined units with have a synergy always placed in cover where possible.

What's your username we can do a compstomp if you want to get the basics. I'll be on in an hour or so. My username is v0lc4n3

Yep, tried playing like a normal RTS and I found out the hard way :p
I can't play tonight but I'll be on tomorrow night most likely, my username is LukeeT.

I'll add you (might pop up as Alexander Duggan not sure what it shows) and we can set up a few games. Try tinkering around with the decks and see what works best - Red Dragon seems to me at the moment to be very friendly towards US and URSS decks. French seems ok too. UK is ok on urban maps.
