i loved playing the table top games (orks and tryanids) i was wonderin sud i get the games off steam. and what is the Downladble content like as i aint done out like this before.

Are you a fan of RTS games such as Command & Conquer or Supreme Commander?

It's one of those!

It's absolutely nothing like the table-top game at all. I was extremely dissapointed by this to be honest. I was hoping for something far more strategic, but they are pretty much Build as much as you can, as fast as you can, and charge. For every race. I find it dull very quickly.

Unless you're really into the 'Law and style of 40K' and you like those sorts of fast RTS games I'd avoid it.

But that's just me, some - obviously - love them!

I've not played the "Space Marine" game though. I can't comment on that.

I pretty much own all the recent dawn of war games, space marine is the only one to look out for as there is some weird ass slow motion type slowdown in the game however the RTS games work flawlessly and are highly recommended.

Look into the older ones for base building as there is none of that in dawn of war 2

I would start of with Dawn of War Anthology (i.e. the first game and expansions) but probably worth waiting for a sale as they normally crop up.

Dawn of War Anthology is a must. DoW2 are fun but as caz32 said there is no base building.

Space Marine is great IMO. Fewer people playing it online now though.

Alien Assault and Steam Marines are indie Space Hulk clones.

Check reviews of the games obviously, there's the odd duff one.

Mostly they're good.

The Dawn of War games are excellent real time tactics games from Relic. Relic are awesome at this type of game so the DoW games are awesome.

edit
It's true, DoW2 doesn't have base building. It's like say... Ground Control but with more RPG elements if that makes sense. Or maybe a squad based RPG. I enjoyed it a lot.

Struggling to remember what the others are. Think there's a WH Fantasy RTS which was good, a 3pv actioner (spare marine) which was OK for the £5 you can probably pick it up for now, a dire FPS game (Fire Warrior).

The space hulk games were... good?

Such a shame how underused the license is in gaming. Dawn of War (one not two) is pretty much the only good modern game with the license. Space marine is...ok, the story is appalling, feels like it was done in 5 mins by someone who had only read the back of the 40k box.

In the past Dark Omen and Shadow of The Horned Rat were both excellent.

Dawn of War is great, DOW 2 not quite so good.

I remember the old Space Hulk game though with it's classic voice acting "Ezekial...my bolter is...jammed", and Final Liberation with the Titans and meks :D

i enjoyed dow2, and space marine, there are certain qualities that come out in both, great sound and voice acting

and using the heavy bolter in mp space marine extermination feels badass :D

Dow is one of my favorite series of games. i invested a hell of a lot of time in them too! i remember having 250 game win streaks on the first dow:40k and getting like 150 on winter assault.

nothing like the desktop game but well worth buying imo

DoW (first & expansions) is a fantastic game (as many have said). Second one is far more like CoH (it's the same engine in fact) - minimal basebuilding, but more tactical in terms of abilities, use of cover etc.

Recently bought the whole Dawn of War (1 and 2) franchise on Steam sale for £17.99. I already had DoW with some expansions but not all and loved it, and hoped DoW2 would be the same but with improved graphics etc...a bit disappointed to learn there was no base building involved as I liked that aspect.

Space Marine is fun in small doses. Decent old school fast-paced FPS action but fairly linear and gets old fairly quickly.

I was disappointed by Space Marine, aside from the lore it really doesn't have much going for it (in other words, if it wasn't WH40K it would be mediocre at best). Probably didn't help that I found myself wanting to use an XB360 controller for general wandering about and Melee, but needing to put it down and switch to kb+mouse for extended shooting sections.

I bought Space Marine for a few quid a while ago, it's the only game I cannot play due to the console FOV which makes my brain hurt! I've given up on them ever patching in a fix :(

The Dawn of War I & II RTS games are worth every penny !!!
