Hello,
I am looking for a new mmorpg to play these days, got a lot of free time (College) :D.
I was thinking about starting warhammer online.
Due to my bad experience with GOA (Dark age) i consider buying a US copy, anyone here who plays on US servers and can tell me what the latency is like? will it be playable?

Also would like to hear people opinions about the game, is it worth getting it?
after 3 years in wow (including woltk), i am really after a fresh new mmorpg to try out...

Thanks

GOA did start off very badly, but its not as big of an issue now. They patch 1 day after the US and are generally quite quick about it and update everyone as soon as theres a problem. I personally havent had any issues with them in the last month or 2.

Any problems I do have , have been with the game itself.

Pick up the Euro version and just make sure to select either Karak Eight Peaks (normal ruleset) or Eltharion (open RvR ruleset) and you'll be fine.

Their moronic attitude aside, they're actually pretty good at keeping the servers up and the game patched.

As for how the game is now, it's just been patched to V1.1a, and in my opinion this brings it up to the state it should have been released in. Good time to buy, I notice it's €13 in the Jersey place.

I don't know why everyone tries to say "you must play on Karak or Eltharion!!!"

Tbh if you pick any server that is med/med you'll be fine.

Those two servers are considered to be "Full"?
Wouldn't wanna play on a server with a queue or anything.

I play on US servers, gave up on EU one after I had problems with my two main characters and GOA took too long to fix (still haven't as far as I'm aware.)

I'm also probably going to play off and on for a while and didn't want the same problems with WAR as I faced on GOA's DAOC servers. Mythic are using the same character transfer system as GOA but they've been far more pro-active in promoting it and opening it up. They'll also manage server merging much better. In short I gave GOA a chance and was let down once too often, unable to use my two main characters as they're not in any zone and GOA's support completely let me down.

Lag isn't an issue with the US servers, if anything it's usually better due to GOA's regular routing issues with UK based ISPs (you'll know about that if you played DAOC).

I really enjoy Warhammer, liked WoW and it is quite a different game but it's a nice change. I play on Red eye mountain on Destro, usually find it quiet around 1pm - 7pm UK time due to timezones, but outside that it's actually pretty busy, especially ORVR T1/T2 (haven't got to T3 yet). The only thing to bear in mind is that maintenance on US servers is offset and usually I find means they're down on maintenance days from 5-9pm UK, which can be a pain. Although their estimated maintenance times are always generous and they're almost always back up by 7pm. Must admit it doesn't interfere with my gaming much.

If you're wanting to try the US servers you'll have to use "hidemyip", get it to give you a US IP address then order from the EA or similar site as it's not "allowed" outside of the US. Oddly though you can pay the subs from your UK based IP.. so they're not that fussed!

Alternatively (and this only applies to Shaye87) drop me an e-mail in trust, I've a spare CDKEY that I was sent me for the US servers by mistake, sent two when I paid for one. I'll happily e-mail you it and post you a copy of the US client install (or you can try to get it off torrent), can't promise it'll work and they haven't issued it to someone else but I've a feeling it'll be fine. :)

I hear Darkfall, the legendary 8 years in development sandbox MMO is coming out in January. I might give it a crack as it seems to be completely open. Though i have no trust is small dev houses now, especially with MMO's. Only EvE has done well in this respect.

Well it's a bit of a saga, but basically GOA mucked up server transfers so a load of people have gone ahead and rerolled on either of those servers. There's never a queue, but the amount of RvR going on is insane, and there's never a problem getting a public quest done. I've been having an absolute blast the last few nights, it's just a pity GOA have put so many people off before now.
