Morning,

My partner and I got reeled into a demo painting session in Glasgow's Warhammer shop on Friday. Got back home on Saturday and went straight to the games workshop in Reading to ask about the game and got a demo game and bought the starter hobbyist kit with the paints, brush, glue and clippers. Along with a couple small characters to build and paint.

We are 100% convinced Age of Sigma is for us as we both enjoy Sci Fi, but prefer Fantasy more.

We are going along to a game evening on Tuesday to see how it plays out and paint whilst everyone else socialises just to introduce our selfs to the group.

Has anyone got any good guides on how to paint their models? We prime and simply paint the relevant colours onto the model, but it seems that layering is where it's at.

Thanks!

I don't get the hate this activity gets. Firstly in my teens I had a go at buying some of the figures and painting them - it's incredibly difficult. So anyone who paints these figures to a high standard (I lurk on the Tabletop Games forum so I know there are plenty of OCUKers who do) gets a lot of respect from me.

Secondly, it's fundamentally no different to going to watch a football match. Think about it, men arguing and bantering with each other, spending more money than is reasonable money on replica shirts/lead figures while developing an encyclopedic knowledge of a subject that is of no relevance to real life at all.

I used to play against my brother back in my teenage years (yikes, that feels like a long time ago) but I was far more into painting the figures than actually playing the game.

I had my Eldar Avatar and Ulthwe Guardians in White Dwarf once upon a time. I was pretty good at it. :)

My son plays and has got me into, we have Space Marines and Tau.

Prefer the building of the models to the painting though.

Off to Warhammer World in Notts for his birthday

I never really got into the whole Warhammer stuff when I was younger, it's only something that I picked up around the age of 24 onwards.

I've got a few sets of miniatures kicking about for Warhammer Fantasy and a few WW2 themed games, I don't tend to play any more as I've almost completely switched to boardgames but I still paint the figures from time to time.
I also paint a few fantasy style figures for the occasional roleplay when a bit of visuals can help manage combat.
