I have been wanting to say this for a while, because it appears more and more common these days for GPU benchmark tools to not completely test a GPU overclock. It may run correctly in Haven or Benchmark, but then crash after 30 minutes of playing The Witcher 3.
I have also been in the camp that you test by playing, because I don't think GPU benchmark tools are all that accurate, they are great for testing load temps but when it comes to stability they are hit or miss. I have found the best way to test my overclocks is via games such as The Witcher 3, Battlefield 1 or Wildlands - that is until now.
Here is where I get to Vermintide, I don't know what it is about it but for some reason this game has found instability in clocks where previously it has ran flawlessly for months. Loading up Vermintide 2, playing 3 matches all of a sudden my game freezes and my drivers crash. I was very surprised, dropped the clocks and now i'v managed to sustain multiple matches with no freeze.
Upon testing overclocking my GPU on this game it was clear to me that this is the ultimate benchmark as the speed that this detects instability rivals no other, it's in a league of its own.
Side note: This game also heats up my GPU faster and hotter than any other game I have tested, including the aforementioned above.
Graphically, while not looking like the best game in the world, it does however have a benchmarky look to it if you know what I mean, this is especially noticeable when you start playing it.
Anyway I have rambled on, I guess you'll just have to put a little trust in me when I say I recommend using this game as your newest GPU OC Benchmarking tool. It's also a really great game which I'm sure many of you will enjoy, which is a bonus.
Make sure to switch the games graphical settings to extreme.
