Warm reset fails to POST

I'm having an odd problem with a recent build and thought i'd poll people here in case anyones come across it before.

When I warm reset (i.e reset from windows, recover from suspend or save/exit from BIOS) the machine fails to POST. I just get a black screen and no BIOS etc. If I power down (i.e. do a full shut down in windows) everything powers up just fine.

Switching to safe values in BIOS makes no difference so far and once started the system seems rock stable for Orthos, Prime 95 etc. I've tried disconnecting all external USB devices just in case and tried just having a PS2 keybord attached with no luck.

e6600/ P5N32-E Sli Plus combo with 2GB of A-Data DDR2-1000 Extreme Edition

There's something screwy somewhere and i'm sure i've heard of people having this before.

Any ideas?

Is your computer heavily overclocked?

If it is try running at stock to see if it makes any difference.

Also you didn't say what kind of PSU you have but it could be that your PSU is either starting to fail or not powerful enough to run your system and when you restart its not able to boot it up properly.

PSU is a Enermax Infiniti Modular 720W PSU, and whilst the system is indeed O/C (3.5Ghz on water) it does the same thing running at stock.

All very odd.....

Well with that PSU unless its starting to go faulty it should be more than enough :)

A bit of a weird one then, maybe it is the board my p5n-e never had that kind of problem. But the p5n32 is a different beasty..

I would suggest going back to some basic fault finding which sucks but hopefully will find the culprit, remove all components and bascially put in 1 memory stick and the gfx card and if you got mroe than 1 hdd use just use your os drive and see if the problem still persist. Then keep adding all your extra's one by one and see if the problem start after one particular thing.

It's time consuming but it should allow you to track down what it is, unless its hte board but then you would have the problem regardless of what you have installed.

Good luck and hope you find your gremlin.

Are you running in Linked or Unlinked mode? Linked mode seems less prone to this. Also - disable the JMicron eSATA controller if one is fitted.
