Just a quick question:

The room that my Rig is in is very warm all day long, obviously this makes a massive difference to the temps inside the PC.

At the minute i have a nice healthy 3Ghz running through my E2200, but have noticed over the past week or so that the temperatures in CoreTemp/speedfan etc are slowly creeping up and this morning were sat at 30/31 degrees ambient (Normally 22-26 degrees ambient)

Do you think its worth reverting back to stock settings for the duration of the summer.....the wife is going crazy due to the fan noise increasing day by day

If it stops your wife from going crazy (nagging), then yes drop your settings for the duration of the summer.

Any thing for a quite life ;)

Well, those temps are nothing to worry about, so if it's just the fan noise that's bothering you/your wife, why not sort that out?

Also, does the pc NEED to be on all day? Do you use it all day?

But, load temps are what's important anyway, what are they in the warmer room?

The fan noise doesnt bother me one bit, the loudest fan in the system is on the graphics card and its not very loud.

The wife is a wierdo and says she can hear the computer from 3 counties away!

Load temps after a couple hours of orthos are now getting into the high 60's, before they were mid to high 50's.

Good news though people, i have just taken delivery of 3 Xilence redwing 120mm fans, some more MX-2 and some rubber fan mounts...so hopefully things will quieten down a touch.

Will take the E2200 back down to 2.2Ghz for the summer then.

If they don't , those rubber fan mounts make great ear plugs ( for the wife ) :D

Just a quick update really:

When i arrived home this evening i decided i would address the problems i have outlined in my first post.

First of all i replaced all of my 120mm fans with Xilence redwings incorporating the rubber mounts.

Secondly i removed the ACFreezer pro 7 and what do i see, the only contact being made is round the edges, with a big area in the middle not even making the slightest contact.

I decided that now was the time to lap the E2200 and HS, luckily enough i already had the gear to do it.
I got all the way to 2500 grade paper and was happy with the result, gave the HS a slight lapping too and rebuilt the system.

Now i am seeing off load temps of 23 degrees and full load temps of 42-44 degrees, best part about it is that the CPU fan isnt even turning on when sat idle, and is only hitting ~500 rpm when fully loaded in orthos so the wife's happy.

Very nice, I hate the summer as it ruins my Q6600 overclock. (was running 69 to 75+ degrees under prime95)

Reapplied the AS5 and all is well now 70 degrees max, with aircon on full, and a lapped CPU. I have crap core to IHS contact :(

Just checked back after running orthos for 3+ hours and noticed that the CPU has actually reverted back to stock settings for some reason.

However good news on the lapping front, after reapplying the 3Ghz overclock the CPU is sat at 22-23 degree's idle again, and 55-58 full load.

The Lapping and MX-2 seem to have done their jobs admirably.
