I should have posted this earlier. Had it for 6 months now and done over 5,000miles plus a few trackdays. "Mindblowing" is apt.

Welcome to my Ariel Atom 2 300 (supercharged Honda 2ltr)

0-60 in 2.8 seconds is the stat that gets most peoples attention!

I LOVE every minute in it!..... As long as its not raining! :p

Enjoy.

Thanks for all the nice comments! :D

To answer the questions:

MPG is terrible, plus small tank!

No compromise is spon on. Exactly why i bought it. The fastest i can afford to go, and handling & brakes to die for.

"Spleen Sauce" I drive CC regularly at their track days. Including this Friday if its dry.

As soon as i can find a GoPro Hero 4 in stock vids shall follow!

Where and when are the OcUK meets? Always happy to chat to likeminded fellows! Point me at a thread! :)

Gearbox is std Honda 6 speed H pattern with LSD. Sequential was a later option.

Prices for Atom 2 300 is around £30K depending on spec, condition, and history.

Not my daily driver. I walk to work so i can have 2 toys! WIN WIN.

Here is a teaser of my other toy. Including one big clue as to what it is. ;)

My sister's partner has one of these (then non-supercharged version I believe) and I was lucky enough to have a passenger ride in it in France. He knew I'd been very much looking forwards to it and he did not disappoint.
I think it is likely to be the only time that I will ever have a fly squashed on my phone cover, due to filming it all on my mobile!

Very jealous; an excellent car.

If it was s/c the screaching whine of the high rpm charger is VERY noticeable. To give you an idea when i took someone out on track (both wearing helmets) he said he initially though i was a mentalist screaming at him every time i accelerated! ;)

All GREAT cars tho, its just the s/c extra mid range torque and addictive noise just add to the experience.

How's in-gear acceleration in the atom?

Deceptively GOOD. It pulls hard from low revs.

Honda vtecs lack mid range in normal car usage but here it only has to shift half (or less) the weight of a normal a car and the s/c fills out the mid range too.

Gearing is also low. Fast starts are from 2nd.

It is frankly hillariously quick. The top end is bonkers. 500+BHP/ tonne!

I'm guessing the clio is the winter car and the atom a summer car - though I would applaud anyone who goes christmass shopping in the snow in a Atom.

Clio is ok - wrong colour though but thats a personal view from me - Liqud Yellow would be my choice with the optional and rare black wheels - though I'm not sure if they were offical or just forum BS I read.

Clio for the rain, and had it almost from new. Illiad is a GREAT colour. Hence why after the uber rare blue phase 1's most dealers ordered Blue phase 2s. Hence blue phase 1 rare, but common for phase 2. There are no factory optional wheels. All have the same wheels in the same colour from the factory. Phase 2 are just 18's, Phase 1 17's. Liquid yellow is amazing i quite agree but very rare.

Get yourself in the BHP/tonne thread!!

I added it to that thread ages ago. I think i was possibly winning at the time i posted it.:p

Thought as much - though I'm not into french cars so I don't know what is right or wrong

French cars are mostly wrong tbf. ;) language! especially. :p But RenaultSport is a beacon for petrolheads IMO. Making small fun cars for the masses to enjoy. And occasionally going full on mentalist and making R5T2 or Clio V6 etc.

Thought the MPG wasn't too bad in these with it only weighing so much.

Unless you're obviously on it everywhere all the time ;)

Chatting to one of the owners I know think he got 40mpg on a run. Supercharged Atom 2 also but it's been fettled a bit.

It depends on how you drive. Yes you could pootle about slowly and then the N/A car is very good, but the s/c one is only OK. The issue is wind resistance / drag at speed. Having limited body panels it is completely un-aerodynamic. Cruising the range is not very good. It also tempts you with the addictive noise and sheer excellerative force on offer. Driven with intent the fuel economy is not good.

What keeps it on the tarmac? Hope?

Sticky track day rubber and driving ability. There are no driver aids at all. I like the fact that is all down to me. There is a LOT to do at high speed on track. Thats the fun of it. Things happen fast both good and bad, and you have to be on the ball and thinking ahead. Its a challenge, and a huge buzz.

Peter

I wouldn't expect driver aids, but one thing i've always wondered on these is that i assume it has enough downforce and the tyres and low centre of mavity ensure there's enough grip and no lift. Because with the power/weight ratio, i would expect some sort of aero.

The is no downforce but also no lift at speed. I took it across Europe over to the ring this year (hence the bike SatNav) and its rock solid at over 140MPH on the GPS! Autobarn FTW! You sure do notice those speeds with no windscreen!

On track once you warm up those Yokos there is loads of grip. As you say also there is low weight too so it changes direction fast. The only thing to remember is as mid-engined if you get it wrong it can be hard to catch.

Peter

We've gone a whole day and you didn't post anymore pics of the VEE?

Very disappointed pete.

Random pic at my old place.

Yes it is a little lower than standard. But the drive is also not even.:p

ENJOY
